My 2003 Audi A6 with a 3.0l engine has an all black dip stick which makes it hard to read are there any tricks I'm not aware of to make this easier to read?

check and clean the connection on oil switch plug also try running an engine oil flush and changing the oil if that doesnt fix it then try removing the sump off the engine and cleaning the oil pick up

What engine is in your A4. Normaly if the oil is in between the hash marks on the dip stick thats good, If above or below hash marks this is bad. To properly check oil level start vehicle up let it run for 30 sec. Shut vehicle off and let it sit for aprrox 2min then check the level.

There's a youtube video about checking Audi engine oil:

There's no mention of the orange plastic indicators but I would assume yes, they are the low and full indicators on the dipstick.
