Use Nissan Altima Automatic Transmission Fluid and it should hold about 10 quarts total. I would fill with 9 quarts and start the engine and circulate the fluid. Check the fluid level and add what you need.

I have a feeling you have the transmission extremely over full. I actually am pretty familiar with maintenance service. When you drain the system off the pan you only retrieve about 35% of the fluid. I would start by checking the level on the stick agian and confirm it. If its over full drain it agian and add 4 qts for starters. Start the truck and with the brake pedal compressed place gear selecter in each gear for 10 seconds then return to park and check level agian. Total transmission capacity is 9qts. and the preferred fluid is DEXRON III / MERCON.

If the leak is not to bad then they do sell a transmission leak stopper. Ask at the auto parts store. If the leak is real bad then done waste your hard earned cash. You will need to find and fix the leak. You should do this any ways. But in the mean time to check the tranny fluid and I am assuming it is an auotmatic? Then you need to put the emergency brake on and stick it in neutral. Then start the engine and then check the dip stick.Remember this important tip. The dip stick on an automatic transmission is measured in pints and not quarts unlike the oil dip stick.
If the tranny dip stick is down one notch then add just a pint to bring it to the full mark. If no fluid is presant on the stick you can safely add 3/4 of a quart and then recheck. To add the fluid you will need to shut the engine off and then restart it to recheck it. The torque converter holds 90 percent of the tranny fluid and it takes quite a bit. Some vehicles it takes 8 quarts just for the converter to get full. Yours should only hold maybe 6 but thats a guess so you may want to ask the parts store guy to look it up for you. You would not be completely empty if it drives though. So follow my info above and get back to me if you need more help. Like when you find the leak. Good Luck, The Raz

What kind or brand of automatic transmission fluid i should use in 2002 nissan sentra

Just standard ATF, Not type F. Actually I have heard you can use any Tranny fluid in Non Ford models but can only use Type F fluid in Ford model vehicles. I used to use type F in my MOPAR with Performance engine and Tranny with no problems. But if you are worried then use ATF or ATF+4 fluid and you should be fine.

1994 nissan altima sometimes sluggish at take off, high rpms when changing gears

This sounds like a slipping transmission , check the fluid level first and make sure its full, if its full then you have ****** problems and may need to have ****** rebuild done,

Another thing is to make sure the trans passing gear cable is connected at the throttle where the gas cable is.

Request information on type and quantity of fluids / oils

Hi there.A auto parts store or a dealership service department can help you determine the type of fluid recommended for your vehicle. The fill area is also the full mark, when adding fluid to the transmission or transfercase the fluid will come out of the fill hole and thats when you will know it is full. Its hard to tell how much fluid is is needed, every vehicle is different, but I believe the transfercase is between 2-3 quarts and the standard tranny is between 4-5 quarts.Keep your receipt and whatever fluids you do not use you can return.Hope this helps.John.
