Likely the ignition switch is not rotating completely into the off position. If your key is extremely worn, it may be possible it can be removed without the switch exactly in the off position. Suggest trying a different (less used) key and see if problem goes away.

Else try to make sure it is in off position (clock off) before removing key. If you find that's the problem you may need new keys or switch or both.

Testimonial: "Carl you are the greatest!!!! I had a new key made when I first got the car and I just tried it and it work!!!! Everything turned off!!! I had called the Toyota dealership and ask how much they would charge me to diagnose the situation and was quoted $155. I prayed with a friend tonight and we ask the Lord to bless you mightily!! Thank you so much for responding to my question. God bless"

Well went out today to run errands and used the newer key and the same lights stayed on when turning off car. ?? I went several places and every time I turned it off the same lights stayed on. So was thinking of getting another key made and if that doesn’t work, do you think my next move would be to have the ignition switch replaced? Since it did turn the lights off that one time. Appreciate any ideas.

I don't believe another key will solve the problem. When you shut off the car, before you remove the key try turning switch slightly one direction or the other and see if there's a spot where all lights are off, then remove key. If this technique works, then it is reasonable to assume a new ignition switch will solve the problem.

I looked and found videos on ignition switch replacement. It unfortunately requires removing the steering wheel... so labor costs go up quickly.

See if you can find a switch position that makes all lights off before removing the key and make a decision on what do after you have results.

SOURCE: 1998 taurus...car running fine, but

hey there
this sounds like a common problem for the Taurus
at each door there is a button that lets the driver know there is a door open and also dose the interior light(s)
one if these are broken
they are easy to fix and cheep to do as the part can be a used one from the wrecking yards
all you need to do is take the switch out and unplug it
do one at a time checking each time to see which switch it playing up
when you have found it just get the new part and install it
WHEN THE SWITCH IS OUT MAKE SHAW THE WIRES DONT TOUCH AS THIS COULD CAUSE A SHORT IN YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM I WOULD USE MASKING TAPE TO HOLD AND PROTECT THIS FROM HAPPENING
if you don't really want to use the lights and warning light dont connect the wires and put the old switch back in
YOU MUSH NOT LEAVE THE SWITCH OUT AE IT WILL CAUSE CURROSION AND ALSO CAN LET WATER IN PLACES IT IS NOT MENT TO BE
let me know how you go

SOURCE: in the dash ,the indicator door open stay and the doors are closd

Hi there,

I had a Saturn that did the same thing. It turned out to be one of the switches in the door jambs was broken. The fix was less than five dollars.

Check the switch for each door. Let me know what you find out. We can proceed from there.

2000 chevy 2500 (new style) parking lights wont shut off

The parking lights staying on and the left turn signal not working may not be related, the turn signal is probably a burned out bulb, turn on the left signal and see if all the bulbs light up if not replace the burnt one, if they all light, the turn signal flasher may be at fault ( it can work with one side and not the other), as far as the parking lights staying on, check the door "pin" switch that controls the interior lights (are the interior lights staying on too?), since the chimes are staying on even with the keys on , I would suspect the door pin switch, probably the drivers side. I believe there may be a timer on the parking lights that turn them off after several seconds after the door is closed, this may be at fault if not the pin switch. newer cars and trucks also leave the reverse lights on for a while after the door is closed.

Malfunction indicator lited repeatedly

Probably is the throttle position sensor is bad. If you through several cycles and the computer does not see a problem then it will clear the codes until the problems exists again. That is why you see the light go out. You probably have a problem with the TPS.

Shaking with engine light and VSC Off lights turned on

If just found this on another forum:

A few days ago I started the Cruiser and had 4 indicators stay lit.
They were the CHECK ENGINE...SLIP INDICATOR..VSC TRAC..VSC OFF.
Didnt noticed any change in driving and 4-wheel drive is still working.
I removed the negative cable from the battery and the same indicator lights have NOT come back. Everything is back to normal as far as warning lights go. Should I take it in to the service center and have it checked.
Or should I wait to take it in, if it does it again?
