SOURCE: MISFIRING ON CYLINDER 1 VW POLO 1.4 3CYLINDER

I have changed a few cylinder heads under warranty for this type of problem. The exhaust valve guides wear, this causes the exhaust valve to seat badly, giving low compression. if one cylinder compresion reading is more than about 50 psi below the others, then this warrants head removal. It is quite a job, due to the fact that the camshft id chain driven. If you are up for it then once the head is removed, poor liquid into the exhaust ports and see if it leaks out through any of the exhaust valves.

My VW 1.4 automatic polo is not changing gears. its just stuck in gear 1 and consumes a lot of fuel.

If the engine light is blinking you have major issues with the vehicle. Have scanned at autozone or similar for codes this will give you a idea what is wrong. Then get back to me when you have codes

Key will not work all lights go on but will not do nothing

Sounds like you has an immobilizer problem. Your best bet, is to have your car checked on a VAG diagnostic tester. By disconnecting your battery the ECU will detect this and send and error to the non-volatile memory that the battery was out. Once the fault or faults are cleared your car might start if there isn't anything else that inhibiting the immobilizer circuit. Have a look at http://volkswagen-polo-highline.blogspot.com/ for VW related issues.

Hi I have a 1998 Polo and lost the key. I got a knew key cut and it has a chip in it. It starts the car momentarily and then cuts out. Does the key need programeing or is this a car fault ?

The Key needs to be adapted to the immobilizer. This Can only be done by an Audi Dealer. You will have to take the vehicle to them so that they can read the immobilizer serial no with a diagnostic reader. They then have to get an immobilizer code from VW and use it to adapt your keys. Only they do it to insure the security of your vehicle.

To by-pass the immobilisr wiring or wiring fix.

theres no easy way around it i,m affraid.the engine control unit needs to see a signal from the immobilizer to allow the car to start.if it was easy to bypass there would be no point.i assume the car starts and cuts straight out ?.that is the symptom you should have.have you had it diagnosed ?.most immobilizer issues on a polo aint to expensive to sort.
A bypass is not a option though sorry.
