SOURCE: after changed a new water pump, timing belt, idler pully, tensioner for 2004 lexus ls 430, when start engine has a noise look like from pully

COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.

Need routing diagram for serpentine for 89 chry mimi van with v6

is it missing on your car - these are posted on the hood or core support of all cars. If yours has been in a collision it may not have been replaced. If you find the same car at a used car lot you can get the routing under the hood. you can figure this out without the routing. there are two pullys that are smooth. one is a tensioner and the other an idler. You will need to move the tensioner to get the belt in place. the alternator, crank shaft pully and air conditioner should have grooves and the grooved side of the belt faces them. the opposite side faces the flat pullys. there is only one way that will work. good luck

Need to know if the Idler/tensioner pully has a spacer in the back or just the bolt

There is usually no spacer other than the shoulder on the tensioner pulley. That said, install the tensioner pulley and then eyeball the pulley alignment with the other pulleys in the drive before installing the belt. If it is visibly off by even one v-groove, then you are either missing a shim or need a new pulley. Do not install the belt if the pulley does not match groove-for-groove with the other pulleys in the drive.

I need to replace the serpentine belt on a 1995 Saab 900 s

Use a 6 or 8 inch 1/2 socket extension bar and place it in the top of the tensioner pulley, there is a notch in pulley for this. The tensioner pulley is near the firewall at the top of the engine....make a diagram of the belt routing and note which side( smooth or grooved) is lying on the pulley(usually grooved side of belt). Next you would pull tensioner pulley forward and slip the old belt off....you would route your new belt the same way and slip it on the tensioner pulley last.....you will need to pull the tensioner pulley forward again to get the slack you need to slide the belt over the pulley. I have found the Saab to be one of the easiest cars to change the serpentine belt on. I hope this helps.

Serpentine belt changing pattern

This configuration eliminates one idler pulley, and one that is difficult to change also. Since many of the idler pulleys have a relatively short life eliminating one will save you money and aggravation.

How do you loosen the serpentine belt

That wasn't right though. There is a 1/2 slot for a 1/2 inch breaker bar and when two holes are lined up you stick a drill bit or similar peice through to lock it in place till you get the belt routed then pull back alittle bit on the breaker bar to remove tension from the drill bit . Remove the drill bit and release tension on breaker bar and remove it to put tension on the belt. Then check alignment , positioning, routing of the belt visually.

2 Loosen the hold-down fastener for the idler or generator pulley.
3 Pry the idler or generator pulley inward to release the belt tension and remove the belt.
4 Match the old belt up for size with the new replacement belt.
5 Observe the belt routing diagram in the engine compartment.
6 Install the new belt over each of the drive pulleys. Often the manufacturer recommends a sequence for feeding the belt around the pulleys.
7 Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.
8 Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.
9 Install the belt squarely in the grooves of each pulley.
10 Before adjusting belt tension, check for proper pulley alignment. This is especially critical with serpentine belts. Measure the belt deflection in its longest span. If a belt tension gauge is available, use it and compare the tension to specifications.
”If a belt is too tight, wear to bearings for the water pump, alternator, and engine crankshaft can result.”
11 Pry the idler or generator pulley to adjust the belt to specifications.
12 Tighten the idler or generator pulley fastener.
13 Start the engine and check the belt for proper operation.
