Both outside door handles are broken on 1996 Hyundai accent
Any advice for getting the inside door panels off and repairing the handles would be appreciated. I'm guessing there's a broken cable that will need to be replaced that links the handles to the door latches. I don't have a special tool for removing the window cranks, I'm hoping that I'll have some luck popping the clips off with a rag. Thanks in advance.

If you pull out on the window crank just a little you can see the clip get a skinny flat head and push one end of the clip it will fall on the floor so dont lose it then the crank will slide off you should be able to get it from there

Being a 2009 you might have to buy a new 1 at the dealer.unless you get lucky and find 1 in a junk yard.Alot of inner door handles can be changed by removing screw for trim on handle(usually in the center of handle, might have cover over it if so pop cover off to revael screw) and remove door rods off back of handle. If not you will need to remove door panel.
yes remove the panel, unhook the linkage one for the lock and one for the latch remove linkage from the handle not the latch, then remove blots holding handle then remove handle from outside the door, you will have to swap the lock to the new handle and then install new handle.
remove door panel which is attached by screws, peel away plastic liner and look inside door at back of door handle..using needle nose pliers pop off the small steel rods that are for inside door mechanism, then remove the one bolt that attaches the handle to the inside of door and from outside of door remove handle.Replace in reverse order!
simple solution. take the panel off of your door, and look for the rod that connects directly to your outside door handle. 9 times out of 10, it came loose because it didn't get inserted properly into the cheap plastic hole which keeps the rod connected to the door handle.
try switching off the child lock. but if it doesn't work your guess might be right. usually the door handls are plastics, easily breaks when forced. just try prying of one of the edge of the door panel and try to peep through just to be sure.
