Drive cycles range from 100 miles to 500miles. The following information is how to complete a drive Cycle without having to drive 100 plus miles.
1. Using a OBD scanner, erase all engine codes after repairing or replacing faulty parts.
2. Drive on the freeway for 5 miles. Make sure that you do not go over 55mph or touch the brake pedal.
3. Find a freeway exit that has a long incline 5 miles from where you got onto the freeway.
4. When you exit the freeway do not touch your brake pedal. Let the exit incline slow you down.
5. Engage the parking brake release and hold
6. While holding the release lever use your parking brake to bring your vehicle to a complete stop.
7. Continue driving making sure that you do not go over 45mph.
8. Use your brake pedal and bring your vehicle to a complete stop.
9. Steps 7. and 8. Must be completed five times.
If your engine light does not come on then you have completed the drive Cycle. If the repairs you made didn't fix the problem your engine light will turn on before the 5th 45mph stop. Also if you go over 55mph on the freeway and touch the brake pedal when you exit the freeway your drive Cycle will fail.

Its actually not that bad to change. If you open the glove box and remove the screws then the screws along the bottom of the glove box at the bottom of the dash the box will slide out. Remember to disconnect the light if it has one. Now you will be able to see the underside of the dash. You can see a large black box that has wires and vacuum lines all over. You need to locate a small flat plate with two screws and a plug in the middle. Disconnect the plug and remove the screws. The resistor will come straight out. The back side will look like small coiled up springs of different sizes. Install in reverse.Hope this helps. Good luck. Please re-post with updates. Thanks cj2176.

Hi it sounds like you have noisy tappits you could try using a thicker oil speak to a local car spares shop about this as this might solve your problem if not then it would be a case of replacing the hydraulic lifters this is quite a big job and something a novice should not attempt but if the noise isnt to bad then its not going to wreck your car if after time the noise gets louder then you would need to get these parts replaced.
