My 1.6 citi golf all gears works properly but gear 5 doesnt want to select it kicks its self to neutral please help guys

Only thing this could be is an obstruction keeping the shift lever from going all the way into #5 position. Check your shifter and linkage to see what is in the way and move it or remove it.

its can be both modulator valve or signs of a transmission going bad.

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my Dodge Colt some years ago as well as my '98 Chevy Camaro. I believe it to be the linkage. It's basically a cable and link assembly that links between your gear shift (automatic or standard) and your transmission that engages the different gears. On many cars the fix is not very expensive. It could just be an adjustment that needs to be made, or a portion of the linkage may need replacement.

Of course, having said that, there is still the possibility that it could be your centrifugal clutch, which would be a more expensive fix. The lesser possibility is that it would be your reverse gear, though you would have noticed an obvious problem with the reverse gear before it stopped engaging. It would have to fail, and it doesn't seem as though that happened or you would have mentioned it.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing definitively through a service like this, what the exact problem is. Your car needs to be placed on a lift (after removing the fascia around the gear shift and testing the cable to see if it is still taught - good indication of a stretched linkage cable if it has slack - the fact that you say your car drives in the neutral position is a real good indication it's probably the linkage), and checked from underneath. Then the adjustment needs to be made.

Try to double clutch shift (press clutch, shift into neutral, release clutch, press again and try to shif) If goes ok into 1st gear then its's the syncro mechanism worn out, if still goes hard, you should check if the clutch do disengage completely

unlikely for a new tranny
reverse gears are spur cut gears so that means that if the teeth are not properly aligned they hit on the ends of each other stopping engagement
you can get around it but selecting neutral , letting out the clutch the depressing the clutch again and make the selection
that sets the gears spinning and makes for alignment for selection

4 to 5th gear synchronizer may be defective however considering the car is only a couple years old try bringing it to a transmission shop and ask them to check and readjust the shift linkage, if there is no adjustment there may just be a worn out or defective plastic bushing, some of these transmissions have internal shift rods and bushings that can wear prematurely. This is a job for a transmission shop the car may still be under warranty bring it to the dealer first to determine if it is under warranty then you won't have to pay as much if anything at all.

Lost 5th gear

This Sounds Like The Brass Clutch Ring For 5th Gear Has Broken Thus Without it It will Not Have Pull in that Gear This A Problem that Calls For Removal and Rebuilding of Transmission.
