Steering Vibration (Death Wobble)

I had the extremely bad steering vibration only when hitting rough patches or bumps in the road. Changed almost everything on the steering front suspension. Eventually cured by changing swivel pin bearings and shimming to correct pre-load.It is important to know that the problem is wheel shimmy, but this is so severe once started, that it appears to be the axle bouncing up and down not the wheel vibrating from side to side! Also need to check all steering ball joints and adjust steering box backlash/play in the straight ahead position.

MAZDA CX9 STEERING FRONTEND , STEERING VIBRATES AT 1300 RPM, IN 4 & 5 GEAR, 6 GEAR OR HIGHWAY IS GOOD

This could be a few things. Does the vibration happen only when your moving or when you've stopped as well. Is it above a set road speed as well as RPM? Vibrations can smooth out as road speed gets higher.
The first, and cheapest, thing to check is your wheels and tyres. Get them re-balanced as a missing tyre weight can cause vibration. Also get the Tracking and alignment checked. If one or both wheels aren't lined up properly vibration occurs and it wears out your tyres faster.
If those are correctly set, get all the joints in the suspension checked as a worn ball joint or bushing will cause juddering.
Finally get the brake system examined. Badly worn brake pads and warped discs can also cause wobble.

What causes slight vibration?

sounds too much like a wheel imbalance, check all the wheel nuts are tight too (I know it sounds stupid but it has happened to me) some off-road tyres have a speed limit set to around 50mph.

Why does my jeep vigorously shake after either going over 50mph or a bump n i'm not talkn about a vibration plz help...tie rods, sway bars, track/control arm, new tires,4x alignment, pwr steer pump

I had the same problem with mine, if u look on the drivers side there is a bracket bolted to the frame that the drag link hooks too. If this bracket is cracked or broken or bolts have come loose or fallen out, your front end will go crazy after htting a bump at any speed over say 25 mph.

Front end Vibration is felt when I hit a bump in the road and it stops when I hit another bump in the road, why is this happening

You need to get this checked out immediately. You are most likely looking for worn out tie rod ends, ball joints and the rest of the steering assembly depending on what you are driving. It is also likely to be a combination of bad parts so make sure shocks or struts and control arm bushings are checked as well.

If you are driving a jacked up truck with 33" or bigger tires it could also be the infamous "death wobble". There's a reason they call it that and you will need to get stabilizers attached to the drag link to eliminate it. They look like long shock absorbers and mount between the frame and the drag link. Hope this helps.

My feont wheels shake somrtimes when i hit a bump

Hi Tony,

There is a problem with either the the wheel integrity, the steering linkage or all the above.

This is a dangerous and potentially life threatening situation.

As someone who has lived through a ball joint breaking off of it's connecting rod, I can tell you first hand that a steering wheel that doesn't steer is no fun at highway speeds.

Please have your vehicle looked at by a pro.
If you drive it, drive it slow, but drive it to a mechanic.

Front end shacking when I run over small bump in road.

If it is still under warranty take it to the dealer. You could have at a minimum have thrown the weights off the tires. But anything like tie rod ends or belts in the tires could be bad.

Front end vibration

sounds like you got the D.W (death wobble)
It is usually caused by either a bad tire,an off balanced, worn bushings, bad tracbar or loose steering components.

Front End Steering problem

Here's the fix. Have all of the front end components checked for excessive play (tie rod ends, ball joints, pittman arm, and steering box) and replace any components that are worn. Also, REPLACE the steering stabilizer! It looks like a cross-mounted shock absorber attached to the frame and your steering linkage. These wear out and cause the exact condition that you've experienced.

Very bad shaking after hitting a bump

this is known as death wobble because it feels like you are going to die but slowing down will end it.

The cause for death wobble are:
  1. Worn or loose tie rod ends on your steering linkage.
  2. Worn or loose trackbar bushings or tie rod ends on the trackbar itself.
  3. front end needs alignment.
  4. and many others but the common reasons are listed above.
try to realign the front end. If it doesnt help, then you do indeed have worn steering / suspension components.
