Check under dash for wires that are touching or rubbing. A short would cause an over voltage.

SOURCE: feul temp oil pressure gauge not working

this problem sounds like a bad ground to your gauges first check your fuses with a test light take the end of light ground on battery with a long wire with alligator clip on end so you can reach around to test second thing take probe tip touch pos of battery to make sure tester lights then test all fuses first both sides most fuses have two little holes one on each side on top to put probe on fuses should light up on both sides some fuses wont light on both unless the ignition is turned to acce or for instant a headlight switch has to be on to test fuse if fuses check out okay you will have to get into the gauge instrument cluster possible if these gauges are pushed into a pin type or flat circuit board its possible loose scews and a good bump would make a bad contact in the cluster

SOURCE: high oil pressure in my humer h2

First thing that i would reccomend is switching to 5w30 oil since this is what GM wants you to run in your hummer. Next i assume your gauge is pegged out and doesn't fluctuate. You are going to have to take your hummer down to the local dealer and have a computer hooked up to see if the gauge is bad or the oil pressure sender is bad, more than likely the sender. thanks for using fixya !! have a nice day

SOURCE: 2005 Bonneville: gauges not working correctly

Hello blackbearwhi,
I have repaired many GM instrument clusters and without question your issue is a failed instrument cluster. The particular item that is giving you the bad gauge readings is the stepper motor that drives each gauge.
Please visit my website for complete repair information. www.kincerservice.com
Thanks Mike

How do I fix my gauges? (Ie, gas gauge, temp gauge, speedometer, odometer)

Fuses? Blown fusible link? Most gauges work by getting 12 volts from the ignition switch when on, and getting a ground from the sender. Often the 12 volt supply wire goes to more than one so if dead, both will fail. If you have a wiring diagram, you might find which wire to cluster should be hot, and trace it backward to find the issue. Easier to check for ignition switch feed first.

Have a gauge hooked up to low pressure fuel pump and it shows it works but high presssure one doesnt

Check to see you have oil up to full on dipstick . The high pressure pump picks up oil at the top level so if oil starts to get to low engine will stop before engine damage . The high pressure pump is what makes the injectors fire . Also check the wires that go thru valve cover some times they burn up and you can smell the burn thru the oil filler cap .

2006 f150- temperature gauge stays cold but "check gauges" flashes in mini message center.

Since the temp gauge is not working correctly, you get the warning message.
Could be a faulty temp sensor or a problem in the wiring harness.

My gauges don't work on 84 monte carlo what should i do

If none of the gauges work, you need to check the gauges fuse and the connector on the back of the cluster. Each gauge is grounded thru its own sending unit.

2000 Ford F-150. The oil temp warning light came on and the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero. While accelerating, the pressure gauge goes back to normal and the warning light goes out. No drivability...

Make sure the oil level is correct. If the engine bearings are getting worn, the oil pump is worn or it's screen plugged, that can cause low-RPM weak oil pressure. Try running with 'high mileage' oil at your next oil change and always replace the filter. At some point, you may need to consider overhauling or replacing the engine. Good luck!

You could try another oil pressure sensor or test the oil pressure with a gauge at the sensor port. If you think about it, the truck goes into a failsafe mode when there is a problem. You could go into failsafe with high temperatures too. The water temp sensor could be bad but with the oil light coming on, the oil sensor should be your first choice.

You can get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys and it may show the problem. Sometimes it takes a better scan with dealership type diagnostics because the self-diagnostics on your truck is limited.

Failsafe mode would cause the power loss because the truck is designed to kill cylinders and to use the dead cylinders as hot exhaust pumps to cool the block.

Check gage light keeps coming on, but there seems to be nothing wrong, what should I check??

one gauge is tripping it on,
but you have to be fast enough to check gauges when it happens,it could be the fuel gauge going to empty,or the charging one going below 12 volts,or the oil gauge falling off at an idle, the temp gauge you should be able to catch that on if it was peaking
