2003 GMC Yukon XL Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 05, 2009

I have a 2003 Yukon XL 1500 with the 5.3L engine. Twice in the last week when I was on the Interstate and had the cruise control on the vehicle unexpectedly stalled and I had to guide it to the shoulder. The Yukon went totally dead which was an extreme safety hazard for my family and for vehicles around me. Could there be a problem with the Engine Control Unit? The problem is not easily replicated and happened at random. I did notice some sluggishness when the crusie control is engaged.

There are a few causes for this to happen
I just put a fuel pump in yesterday in a 04 yokon XL with the same issue
it had a plugged fuel filter, and low fuel pressure.
Same complaint, coming from CA to TX, freeway speed cruise on and it just dies.

The vehilce needs to be looked at, and have vehilce scanned for codes.

I hope this helps.

Cruise control and rear brake lights don't work.

{: ) Check the fuses at the I/P fuseblock labelled CRUISE(10amp) and STOP(15amp). Also check the the ETC/ECM fuse(15amp) at the underhood fuseblock. A faulty brakepedal switch is most likely the cause. The cruise control system will not function properly if this switch is giving inaccurate voltage signals.

How do you reset the check engine light on a 2003 gmc yukon xl

the check engine light means you have a trouble code in your vehicles computer. After fixing the problem with the yukon the check engine light can be reset sometimes by disconnecting the battery and disconnecting the ECM fuse. Although some parts stores are known to check your codes for free they might also clear them with a scan tool.

Stalled twice while towing at 65 mph. sputtered

If the scan will narrow down which o2 sensor it is and replace it. If it has more than one on that year that is. Under load you will probable have a richer fuel mix. If the sensor is going going bad it may only get out of spec reading under heavy load and warmer temps. I have had similar issues with GM and it was easily fixed.

2003 Denali Yukon, no Brake lights, no Cruise Control, fuse is OK

Check your brake light switch at the pedal. This controls the lights and disengages the cruise when stopping. I'd look there before I go anywhere else. There may just be a wire loose. Could be a simple fix.

Good Luck and hope this helps.
