Insert your key in the starter, start you car as you usually would and let it stall. Keep the key in the "On" position. In other words, don't turn the key back to the "Off" position. You will know the key is in the "On" position because you can use the A/C, radio and see all the lights on the dashboard when it is in the "On" position.
2
Wait until the "Theft Sys" light on your dashboard stays on without blinking. This will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
3
Start the car immediately once the "Theft Sys" light stays on steadily. Remember to not turn the key off. Your car will now reset the passlock system and start as usual.
I would suggest you take it to a Chevy Mechanic/Dealership. This maybe a common problem inherent to this make/model. Sounds like a relay issue. Various recalls were issued for this make if I recall. Always good to have the dealer check those.
if the security light is on, that means the system is failing and shutting the fuel off to the injectors. If it doesn't have a chip, it probably runs off the transponder in the plastic part of the key. This is very common on GM vehicles. sounds like the igniton key swich has a problem possibly a electrical short to the key or some component is heating up the key causing not to be removed quicky
Check if your wires are on TIGHTLY on the battery, if one loses a touch, your car will shut off. If you go over a tiny bump, or turn to one side or another, they could disconnect, causing your car to lose a + or a - cable connection. Which would very well make your car shut off. Also, check for any corrosion on the battery terminals. Good luck.
if it was me i would go to a good salvage yard and see if they have one the same color as my and then take it to a locksmith and have my new steering wheel rekey to work with my key i have now and if you have a hard time finding one here is a place that sells only GM-parts Schram auto & truck parts number is 1800-292-1032
also a s10 owner, my truck shuts off when i put it in park...yours is your shift cable ..adjust cable (without running) p,r,n,d and so on, making sure your indicator is in correct spot.
there is a safety switch that prevents the ignition from being turned off and removed while in gear. try putting in nuetral and removing the key. if it does then it is a problem with the shifter and not the ignition.
