SOURCE: How do you access the spark plugs 2002 mercury mountaineer

IIRC these are a coil over design. meaning the coil is over the plug. the coil should have one 8mm bolt holding it on the lower intake manifold. remove the coild to get to the spark plugs. look by the fuel injectors, coil should be just next to it or very close. coil usually says motorcraft on it and circle in design.

good luck

SOURCE: 2005 dodge noen cam sensor

I own a 2002 neon sxt and recently had to replace the cam sensor it should be in the same place.
look on the right side of the motor you should see it. it'll have a small wire harness that clips in the top and its fastend with 4 bolts. Oh and take the battery out before you do it it makes it a lot easier.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2002 mercury mountaineer 4.0 starter relay location

The power distribution box is
located in the engine compartment.
The power distribution box contains
high-current fuses that protect your
vehicle’s main electrical systems
from overloads.
The starter relay is in position #56 of that box.

SOURCE: cabin filter location mercury mountaineer

There is one for the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. If you are smellign a "vinegar" odor, mix a solution of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water and pour it down the grid at the base of the windshield. It will take care of the smell.

SOURCE: 2005 Mercury Mountaineer rear end whine, how hard to fix

Before you do this you might want to try fresh gear lube. On Ford products they use a synthetic additive in the rear and not in the front 4x4 axle.
The next thing would be to determine if it is a wheel bearing or a pinion bearing. You have to pull the axles and eliminate them as the problem. You might get lucky and not need to do the pinion.
The technical part of shimming the pinion gears with replacing the pinion bearing is about the worst part of the job. You won't know about the gears until you see them. You will need extra shims on hand.
It is a moderate job for two people. If you have all the parts it can be done in a day.

2004 Mercury Mountaineer 4.6L V8 SOHC; where are the camshaft position sensors located?

the service manual has this, buy one, I have them for all my cars for 50 years owned, and I have a scan tool (over 6 year) for OBD2 USA care so I never miss out on CKP or CMP or P03xx errors ever.
well they are on the CAM shafts. SOHC is good to hear.
step 1 skipped, did not scan the PCm to see what P03xx errors called DTC you have.
page 1 in cam CMP error page states
Are DTCs P0340, P0344, P0345 or P0349 present?
location pages.
and below are the SOHC, CMP.

see red arrow below.
it must go to the cam and tells PCM which cylinder is fining
