First do a mechanical check to make sure the camshaft is turning with the crankshaft while cranking to verify the timing is intact. Then make sure that the distributor is also turning to make sure it is engaged.

You need to actually follow the voltage from the battery through to the high voltage distributor and spark plug using a volt meter/spark tester and a good manual for this vehicle. That manual will give you the wiring diagrams and should tell you how to test each component before replacement.

When everything on the +Positive side is good, make sure all of the ground strap connections are solid and clean. Older vehicles rust and can lose the ground connection. Without a ground, it won't work!

    Good luck.

SOURCE: 1984 toyota pickup 22r motor. No fire to distributor

At the cost of the igniter i recommend checking your pickup coil.( The 2 wire sensor in side of your distributor. The The igniter will not allow the coil to fire with out reference form the pickup coil. Coil has primary and secondary resistances. when the primary coil powers up and then pulses off, this cause a high voltage due to magnetic degeneration. Check the coils primary and secondary resitances along with the air gap in the pickup coil, and also check the resitances on the pickup coil. If i am right your igniter will be okay.Get a good manual for you truck, It will save you money down the road.
Toyota does not have at test proseger for the ingiter.

Also check the wires in between the pickup coil and the igniter.
I hope this helped.

SOURCE: no fire to distributor module, coi, pickup coil

Maybe a broken wire going to the distributor, Check that first. Check fuse also ( Engine fuse ). Check distribution box ( brain box ).

1988 GMC S15 no spark at plug??

step one is test spark at coil first not distributor.(last)
the coil has a HV lug use spark wires HV + plug to test that this is first. if fails the distrib is bad, VR pick up.
s15 jimmy or PU
which engine,
2.5L 151cid L4
2.8L 173cid V6
4.3L 262cid V6 <<<< I will guess this and answer.

try new distributor.
and must be timed,
set engine, to TDC 0-degrees, #1 piston on firing stroke
step1 is that. so new dizzy super easy to put back same. time.

the ICM runs the coil but the ICM has inputs, that must be working
1988 uses what to make ICM work, good pickup coil
The PCM (VCM) runs the 4 wires to the Distributor and ICM in it.
if PCM is bad, or inputs to it are bad, there will be no spark
there is no CKP sensor here ,just CMP and CMP is the pickup coil inside DIZZy and connect to ICM and ICM makes spark. (ign coil)
the PCM I think only does spark timing advance.(called EST)
but no sure me how the 4 wires on PCM to Dizzy work.
a new pickup coil might fix this , (it is CMP named now)
CMP is cam sensor and here it is via cam to main DIZZy shaft to pickup coil)

Ign contro module and ign coil along with ign switch and still have no fire to start truck

Have you changed/checked the distributor pickup(if you have a distributor) or crankshaft sensor/cam sensor (if you do not have a distributor)

I have a 1990 Dodge Ram 150 with the 318 engine that the coil isnt sending fire to the dist...But the coil is good. Could someone help?

Could be a bad coil, or a bad pickup coil inside the distributor, or worst case a bad pcm.

You said the coil is good, but didn't mention if you had tested the coil's primary and secondary circuits with an ohmmeter to see if they are within specs? And the pickup coil is like a crank position sensor: it tells the pcm crankshaft position and rpm so the computer can determine spark timing.

Does ign. module control ign. pulse

The pulse comes from the magnetic pickup in the distributor,
Then the module "prosesses" the information and fires the coil .
don't think you can get a module from a parts house,,seems like the only way was buy the distrubitor complete for about 125.00(I may be wrong but it's a sure fire fix)

No spark to plugs or coil.

Do you have power to the coil with the key in the run position and when cranking? (ignition switch)

No ignition wont start

Are you getting fire but still no start? Check for fuel delvery. If no fuel delivery at the shrader valve. then check the fuel pump. If you don't hear the hum of the fuel pump when in the "on"position, replace it.Also make sure you have power at the constant 12v at the coil and distributor. If no power is present you may have a faulty ign. switch.
