"OURCE:VW 2000 New Beetle door sensor/car alarm goes off when doors open.
I found a thread - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1542461that details the repair of the soldering on the key lock door module. Our 2000 new beetle had the same issue. Also sometimes it refused to start. Soldering pins fixed it all.
Also see http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107 for releasing window from track, And door handle from inner panel.
I ripped the door apart and re-solderd the pins. I only had one pin with cracked solder but two others looked thin so I did them while I was in there. It's about a four or five hour project if you have all the tools. (8mm triple square also called an 8mm internal was the hardest to find - Also needed Torx T8 T10 T15 and T30 plus Philips Screw Driver. )
Project is difficult but not too bad for the mechanically inclined. A 7 on a scale of 10.
Since re-soldering pins - no more issues! My guess is that a VW dealer would get $200 for a new moduel plus 5 hours of service time for this gig - easily a $500 to $1000 bill. My cost - several new tools - about $25.00."
SOURCE: ALARM
I would first look at broken wires in between the doors and car's frame, in the accordians. We often see this.

I have heard of VW's of this era having issues with water getting on the alarm module board, which causes the alarm to go off without rhyme or reason. I believe the seal around the water deflectors near the windshield cracks or degrades. The alarm module should be under the hood near the windshield on the driver's side, under a plastic cover. If you can locate it, you could try drying it off and seeing if that helps.
An alternative is that the wiring in the door could be getting wet, if the seals are no longer good.
If you just need to make it *******, remove the fuse for the horn, if you can find it.
SOURCE: driver door closed but door alarm and lock keep going off?
Sounds like the door latch is not closing all the way, Try spraying some WD40 into the latch in the door where it hits the striker post. Hold the door handle up and bump the door shut and open while holding the handle up on the out side several times, This should loosen the latch up and the door should close and latch. The more you spray and work the door the better it should get. If not the latching mechanisim may need replaced. I hope I have help you sovle the alarm problem.

Pits one of the five door ajar switches. They are located in the door latch mechanism that holds the door closed. The best way to figure out which one it is is to scan the body control module. With all the doors closed. It will tell you which door is giving the open signal. This will need to be done with a high end scan tool that any good shop or the dealer will have.
The most common one to fail is the driver front door.
