I have a 2007 GMC Envoy. Whenever I turn the wheel completely (I.e. when making a U-turn) that vehicle hardly moves and makes these odd sounds. Any idea what it might be?
Do you have the front hubs disengaged and the shift lever in 2wheel drive. If this is the case, the tyres will fight against each other while turning on bitumen.
Do you have any warning lights on or serv four wheel drive, Is your four wheel drive switch indicates you are in 2whl drive? Ifyour car turns fine on slipper or loose gravel It stuck in 4x4. this truck has many problem with dash switch, bad modules, if it gets very expensive get good will from dealer if you have 50000 miles or less on truck should get something.
Manual locking hubs on an '07? not likely. sounds like your 4wd may be engaging, or the front diff. may be stuck... when you shift (or the computer does for you) into 4wd, the transfer case shifts, sending a signal (whether electric or vacuum) to the front differential for the automatic locking hubs to engage. occasionally the mechanisms that control that can fail, leaving the front wheels locked in at all times. if the system is vacuum, you may have a faulty actuator (under the battery i believe), or cable from the actuator to the front diff. also, vacuum systems have switches on the transfer case that can fail causing the front diff to lock up when you aren't in 4wd. if the system is electronic, there will be a shift module on the front differential (usually on the front, easily accessible from underneath). These electronic modules have just as many problems as the vacuum systems. either way, taking it to a shop you could be looking at anywhere from $100 to $1000 for parts and labor.

My drive is set to "auto" and I'm not sure how to determine whether or not my front hubs are disengaged. Is there a way that I can make this determination? Do you think it could be my steering or suspension problem?
I will be taking it into the dealership on Saturday but I'm just trying to get an idea of what the problem "might" be so that I can determine how severe the problem and the associated costs will be. Thanks so much for the feedback!
