First tell the helper what country you reside.? or answers will be dead wrong!
Cars are totally different by country (laws and users demands for smaller engines, et cetra)
year car? and model (like 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, USA)
if you have engine problems ? then state if engine is gas or diesel and size engine,
if trouble with transmission tell the helper if its manual (stick ) or automatic.
or A/T or M/T jargon works.
then tell full symptoms, or the job you are doing.(and why helps)
tell what the car does good and bad. (pretend the helper is blind, we are)
like this:
examples"
car starts and runs, ok, but does not shift correctly.
The engine does not crank over. 4.0L jeep.98 a/t
what it does good and bad, matters, as does, do all electrics work.?
head lights , radio, work? correctly.?
the engine stalls, is 3second or in 3 miles.. is a big help.
good luck!
it will tell you all codes the engine and that are stored in the computer and you only need to do it one time will tell you all about the engine and sensors for that engine
It can only tell you what the sensors are reading and compare them to what they should read. It can also tell you any trouble codes that were recorded by the computer, even if the check engine light is not on. A good scanner can read the O2 sensors over time with the engine running. This is about all you can get in terms of performance. It cannot tell you horsepower ot torque--anything like that. Am I answering your question? Feel free to ask more.
It tells the ecm if the egr valve is opening or not. I can tell you where its located if you tell me what size engine you have. It is a common failure on fords. It won't cause the engine to run bad or cause any problems when it goes bad, it will just bring on the Check engine light.
The check engine light is telling you the computer is detecting something wrong. You will need to connect a device which will read the code and tell you what the problem is. Your owner's manual will tell you the capacities of the systems of your particular vechicle, as well as the type of engine oil grade you should use.
