98 saturn sl runs fine for a week or two, then stalls and wont restart. Sometimes it will start after a few hours, sometimes it wont start for 3-4 weeks. We have replaced the alternator, starter, ignition module, thermostat, fuel pump and relays. I'm pulling my hair out, any ideas guys?

loose/weak grounding cable tied somewhere to the frame/starter/engine

replace ignition coil

try the throttle position sensor

chech all wiring to battery and starter and all grounds sounds like loose ground wire located on bell housing bolts

Check the air mass sensor, clean it with carb cleaner and then refit if you need info on how to do this let me know. the clunk into gear is only because the car is stalling most likely.

yes, remove starter taka it to a service shop for servicing and checks , also check the condition of the battery,make shore it's holding charge and cells are ok.

I had a problem with starts on my 98 sc2, did it twice only, but it would start up, shake a bit then shut down like it wasn't getting fuel, or a wrong mixture. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor and starts / idles like new now... goodluck

You can't afford to not take it to a Saturn dealer. Look at all the worry your going through not to mention possibly lost time from your job. I had the same problems with my 98 SL1. First time it went to the Saturn dealer they diagnosed a bad coolent tempurature sensor. The car was fine for about 2 months then it would start and then stall bfore I could get out of the driveway. This time the dealer diagnosed a bad crank position sensor. That was 3 years ago and the car has run well since. I believe your car could have one of these problems (maybe both). Take it to the dealer. They probably see Saturns with these problems every week and will know how to fix them.
