It that is a plug on to a spade terminal that will be the power wire from the ignition switch
have an auto electrician check it out as it could be a faulty ignition switch or starter relay

Testimonial: "Hi Bill, Yes,it is the black spade terminal onto the starter motor. I know my way round electrics Bill, any pointers on checks, apart from the fuse."

remove the wire and install a multi meter set on volts and check for power with the key held in the start position

SOURCE: 1997 Chevy Cavalier intermittent starting

I had the exact same problem on my 1998 Chevrolet 1500 c/k pickup. I also tried a new starter motor and solenoid assembly, but to no avail.

After weeks of searching for the problem, I found that corrosion had built up between the car battery terminals and the power cables extended from the car battery to the starter motor. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it's worth a try. Also, check all other electrical connections, because these types of intermittent problems are often electrical.

SOURCE: Intermittent starting trouble. Good battery,

I would recommend changing the positive battery cable! You may have a bad cable and it could either be broke on the inside and wiggling it causes it to make contact. cables are nothing to play with because i have seen cars catch fire and burn up from having a short and then grounding out against frame. If you cant do it your self please have someone look at it because all it would take is for you to go into a store and come out to a carbque.

SOURCE: 1989 Mazda MPV V6 RWD: Intermittent starting problem.

More than likely the starter solenoid has burnt contacts in it, this is a common problem with all Denso designed starter motors used in almost all Japanese cars and light trucks. You can either try and find a solenoid or just replace the starter. The solenoid can be repaired if you can find the contact kit for it, most are available on line for about $20, just google it.

SOURCE: intermittent starting problem

Sounds like the starter solenoid on the starter has failing contacts, and needs replacing.

I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2.0L that has a problem starting. Battery is fine & if you push start it it'll start 4-5 times with the key then not start. Replaced starter and the problem remains

When you start the Lancer, does it actually turn over and start? Or does it sputter while you're pressing the start button?

This is what I would start with. First, I'd find your fuel regulator and follow the vacuum line that leads to the engine - then unplug that. Find some extra tubing or rag that you can replace that plug with to keep it sealed. Then, if you're car starts running, you'll know its just a bad regulator.

If that doesnt work, the second thing I'd try is pulling off the air-intake and spray some brake cleaner in there to see if it will start. If that works, then you have a fuel leak or clog somewhere thats preventing your fuel from reaching the sparkplugs.

Hope this helps-

Lexus SC300 95 Several tries before starting.

Have the charging system checked out. The battery, alternator, and starter. Also if all of this checks out you may have a battery draw(something draining the battery). If you use your car every day it will never show up.

Starting

Have the battery tested 1st, if that is ok then the problem is the starter solenoid contacts are burnt and causing a intermittent loss of connection which causes a no crank.
