To test the ignition system on a VW engines with this ignition system you check at the 3 pin plug on the distributor there is 12 volts on the 2 outer pins, this gives a feed to the hall sender in the distributor. The centre pin is the switch to the ignition amplifier that is built into the coil. If you disconnect the plug of the hall sender fit a piece of wire to the centre pin with the ignition switched on and flash it to earth you should get a should get a spark at the king lead. Reconnect the plug and use a LED test light to test switching by connecting one end of the test light to a positive feed and the other end to to the centre pin you should see the led flash when cranking.

SOURCE: How do I fit coil over rear springs on VW Golf mk4

first you can loosen the top strut nuts, they are accesses from the boot and the bolt tops may have an allen key top you can use to stop the piston spinning, then you will need to jack up back of car, one side at a time, unbolt bottom of existing shocks, place new ones inplace but bolt tops in first, if they dont fit as too long to get into the bottom bolt holes, try jacking the car as high as possible and get a friend to slowly but firmly push down on the rear wheel, (btw you do this with the wheels on, just as easy as off) and with that extra clearance you should get em in.. or there are spring compressors but I doubt they will be needed, or even possible on "in car mounted" springs.. goodluck, there are also several articles on vwwatercooled.org.au, checkit!! :) Chas

SOURCE: golf sometimes no power to starter motor

I would check the ignition switch. You can unplug the small wire at the starter, with a test light check and see if power is at the plug when you turn the key to the start postion. If there is power there, you may have a bad starter solenoid. I've had to replace a few on my VW, (86 Scirocco, 91 Jetta GLI)

Dose the coils on the passat differ from the coils on the golfs. What are the specifications on the coils of the passat 1.8 T 2002 MODEL

the passat uses coil packs one for each cylinder and the 2002 golf uses one coil pack that fires all cylinder and also not the same engine in 2002. now the 2000 vw golf with the 1.8 engine uses the same coils,so if its a 2000 vw golf with a 1.8 engine then yes you can use them they are exactly the same, hope this helps.
