Radiator fans not working on a 99 dodge Grand Caravan

Hi there:
The engine coolant temperature sensor is a variable resistor with a range of -40 degrees F-265 degrees F (-5 degrees C-129 degrees C).

The engine coolant temperature sensor provides an input voltage to the PCM. As the coolant temperature varies, the sensor resistance changes resulting in a different input voltage to the PCM.

When the engine is cold, the PCM will demand slightly richer air/fuel mixtures and higher idle speeds until normal operating temperatures are reached.

The engine coolant temperature sensor is also utilized for control of the cooling fan.

Fig. 1: Engine coolant temperature sensor location - 3.3L and 3.8L engines

Check this test procedure:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Detach the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  3. Using a DVOM set to the ohms scale, connect one lead to terminal A and the other lead to terminal B of the coolant temperature sensor connector.
  1. With the engine at normal operating temperature, approximaterly 200 degrees F (93 degrees C), the ohmmeter should read approximately 700-1000 ohms.
  2. With the engine at room temperature, approximately 70 degrees F (21 degrees C), the ohmmeter should read approximately 7000-13,000 ohms.
  3. If not within specifications, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.
  4. Test the resistance of the wiring harness between PCM terminal 26 and the sensor wiring harness connector. Also check for continuity between PCM connector terminal 43 and the sensor wiring harness connector. If the resistance measures greater than 1 ohm, repair the wiring harness as necessary.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Location of fan relay on mt 99 dodge grand caravan 3.8 l motor ?

Thank you for the inquiry.
RADIATOR FAN CONTROL
Fan control is accomplished two ways. A pressure transducer on the compressor discharge line sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which will activate the fan. In addition to this control, the fan is turned on by the temperature of the coolant which is sensed by the coolant temperature sensor which sends the message to the PCM. The fan will not run during cranking until the engine starts no matter what the coolant temperature is.

CAUTION: The solid state fan relay is attached to the left frame rail near the lower radiator support. The relay bracket, and fastener are used to dissipate heat from the relay. Ensure the relay is properly attached to prevent the following:

Intermittent engine overheating.
Relay "thermal" shutdown, or relay damage.

Hope helps; keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.
Kind regards,

Where is the location of fan sensor on dodge caravan 1992?

The location of the coolant temperature sensor depends on which engine your vehicle is equipped with.
If you have the 2.5L 4-Cylinder engine, it is located in the cylinder head next to the ignition coil.
On the 3.0L and 3.3L V-6 engines it is located next to the thermostat housing (follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing). It just screws in and looks like the picture below.

NOTE: If the radiator cooling fans are not working, there are several things that could be causing the problem. The coolant temperature sensor operation should be verified using a scan tool that can display the data from the coolant temperature sensor and comparing the reading with the actual temperature of the engine using an infrared thermometer or a pyrometer.

I have a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan. Where would I find the Fan Switch Sending Unit?

I think you are referring to the coolant temperature sensor? If so, it will be located on the bottom tank of your radiator. They may have two, some only one wire and used the chassis for ground.
If the engine is cold and the system is tight, that sensor can be removed and replaced with only moderate coolant loss if you work quickly. Put a basin or pan under the sensor area to catch any losses since coolant is sweet and animals will drink it if it is available; it can be toxic to them.

HELP... CODES FOR 1996 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE. CODES 12, 22, 11, 44, 55. WHAT DO THES MEAN AND HOW TO FIX IT.

11- no start since battery disconnected.
12- battery has been disconnected recently.
22-Coolant temperature sensor, bad connection or faulty.
44-signal to smec (engine computer) was interrupted, or is not present.
55- is end of codes.

What exactly are you experiencing as far as starting and driving goes.
The only code I see right now that I would worry about is the coolant temperature sensor, if you are experiencing poor running, starting etc.
The signal to smec, may have been a one time thing, if vehicle runs.
