I'm trying to remove right front caliper to change pads, and can't loosen caliper bolts. (One of them has a rounded head!) How does it come off?

Hello. Remove your Mercedes' front caliper bolts counterclockwise (to the left; facing the head of the bolt) to loosen, clockwise (to the right; facing the head of the bolt) to tighten. Good luck and keep me; if you want to.

Without a model and year I can only give you a general description on how to change chevy calipers.
Jack up the left front and put a stand under it, then remove the wheel. Turn the wheel all the way to the right
On the back of the caliper you'll see 2 female hex bolts(allen head) the size should be 5/16 or 3/8, use a
male hex socket or an allen wrench to remove the bolts, if you use an allen wrench you may have to give
it a couple of wacks with a hammer to loosen them up. Now use a pry bar work the top and bottom of the
caliper and walk it off the roter, set the caliper aside so not to strech the hose. Next, put the new pads in
the new caliper and bolt it up to the bracket, remove the hose from the old caliper and bolt it to the new
caliper, be sure the bolt is clean and use the new copper washer that came with the caliper. Now repeat
this on the right side, bleed the brakes and thats it. Hope this is helpful.

DO NOT REMOVE THE CALIPERS TO CHANGE FRONT PADS.just the spring clips/pin that hold them in.use a "c" clamp to push the pistons back.

Loosen tire lug nuts. Jack up the car and remove lug nuts and tire. Remove two bolts holding the caliper in place. Remove the the two bolts holding pads in place. Hang caliper with a wire from wheel so brake line is not stressed. Mount new calipers in correctly and tigthen pad bolts. Put caliper on and tighten caliper bolts. Replace tire and lugs nuts. Jack car down and tigheten lug nuts.

Disc brakes I assume on the front of the car? If so.

1. take off front wheel.
2. remove 2 bolts that hold the brake caliper on the rotor.
3. slide the caliper off the rotor and remove old brake pads.
4. take a C-clamp and put it so you can press the piston back in on the caliper so it is almost all the way in. (Caliper = The round shaft that is on the inside of the rotor that pushes out the pads causing the resistance).
5. Check the condition of the rotor. If it is smooth and doesn't have too much of a lip on the outside of the rotor(both inside and outside of rotor), then put the pads on the caliper and put it back together.
6. If rotor is rough or has grooves in it then take the two bolts out so you can remove the caliper bracket from the wheel assembly. Tap on the rotors till they loosen up an replace them.

CHANGING FRONT BRAKE PADS
Jack up the car. Take off your tire. Find the bolt on the back of the caliper and take it off. This should release the caliper, pull the caliper off the disc. Now you should be able to take the pad out. Replace the pad. You'll need a special tool to reset the caliper. As the brakes wear down, the caliper gets tighter so the brakes still work. I'm not sure exactly what its called, but you can borrow one from auto zone. Follow the instructions that come with it to reset the caliper. Slide the caliper back over the disc. If it doesn't go on, you need to reset the caliper more. Put the relese bolt back in. Put your tire back on.Drive slowly and test the brakes.
CHANGING THE REAR BRAKE PADS
The rear brakes on the rx8 are a bit different than most setups...be careful! The only way to move the piston back into the caliper is by way of a special allen head bolt that is directly behind the piston, on the back side of the caliper, installed under a 14mm bolt.
You have to remove this bolt to gain access to the allen head. As you loosen the allen head bolt(counter-clockwise), the piston will move back into the caliper.
Installation is pretty typical, again, the allen head bolt being the unusual part. The manual says to tighten this bolt until the pads contact the rotor, then loosen the bolt 1/3rd of a turn, then reinstall the 14mm bolt.

1. Loosen lugs to wheel with wheel on the ground. Remove AFTER jacking the wheel into the air.
2. 2 bolts hold brake caliper to the suspension. Located on the inboard side of caliper. Usually is a regular hex bolt or an allen head. You may need to persuade them loose at first with a hammer or extra leverage.
3. caliper can be lifted off rotor exposing the pads. Be sure to note how the pads look in place so you can replace the new ones in the correct spot.
4. Depress the caliper piston completely back into cylinder with large channel lock pliers. be careful not to scar in any way.
4. put small amount of lube grease on bolt when reinstalling.

look for 2 bolts or pins that go right thru the calipers, they actually retain the pads, normally the heads will be on the back side of the caliper. take them out, there may be thin metal clips (springy) on top of the pads. remove them too. slide out pads working the caliper back and forth to loosen them up. open up fluid resevoir then with a large screwdriver push the brake piston back so as to be able to get new pads it, bolt it all back and your are done.

Assuming that this Model has 4 Wheel Disk Brakes I will lead you the Best that I can. Remove the Tire, From there you will see a Large Disk with a "Caliper" Mounted on the top side that covers Both sides of the Disk. On the Back side of this "Caliper" on the Top and Bottom of it There is going to be a Bolt on the Top and Bottom. Some use Allen Wrenches and Some use Bolts or Nuts, Feel around and figure out which one you have. Remove these and Lift the Caliper Off of the Disk,BE CAREFUL WITH THE BRAKE LINE ATTACHED TO THE CALIPER AND DO NOT REMOVE THE BRAKE LINE! Remove the Brake Pads from the Caliper at this Point. On the Back of the Brake Pads that you just removed there should be Clips, Take these off the Old pads ans Install on the New Pads. Right where the Pads were on the Caliper there is going to be a Round Cylinder with a Large Hole in the Center, This needs to be Depressed back into the Caliper to get this Job done. On the Top of the Caliper there is a Small Bolt that is Round on Top and has a Small Hole in the Center Just like a Persons Head on a Nut. You MUST do the Next Steps Together to make this work CORRECTLY! Get a Wrench that fits the Small nut on top and Loosen it VERY LITTLE While you use a Pair of Channel Locks to Compress the Cylinder Back into the Caliper. You should see Brake Fluid come out of the Head in that little Nut. Once the Cylinder is Compressed Back into the Caliper Tighten the Little Nut Back down. Try not to let Air get Back into the Hole in the Nut that you are Loosening Or We will have a PROBLEM. So, Make sure you do BOTH of them at the Same time (Loosen nut WHILE Compressing Cylinder with Channel Locks). Install the New Brake Pads on the Caliper the Same way that they came off. Wipe everything off and keep it all Clean! Install the Caliper Back on the Disk and Replace the Bolts on Top and Bottom of Caliper. Get in the Car and Pump the Brake Pedal until it gets Firm and go to the Next one! This will work for all if you have 4 Wheel Disk Brakes. If you get two much air in the Lines the Brakes will go to the Floor and you will have to have a Helper Pump the Brakes while you Loosen the Little Nut on top of the Caliper. THE UPPER IS NOT A BOLT ITS A SLIDE PRY THE CALIPER UP OFF THE PADS AND THEN PULL IT OUT MAY BE RUSTY BUT IT WILL COME OUT
