Did you have it checked for code's ? The PCM / ECM supply's Battery voltage to control ( energize ) the fuel pump relay . Using a voltmeter you can check for B+ voltage at pin 85 or 86 ,which ever one comes from the engine computer ,the other goes to ground . This is provided the anti-theft system light isn't lit . the control unit is no good.i had a similar situation with a 98 tracker,and installed a switch to give it a ground for the compressor relay that comes from the a/c computer module.
it works good and goes on and off with the a/c switch.

remember the switch only gets power for 1 second when u turn the key on, the common problem is the ignition starter switch comes apart, it is located at top of the steering column near the bottom, drop the column down (2 nuts) and inspect the switch for separation.

Keep in mind that you have several components there:
- Fuel Pump Sender Assembly,
- Fuel Pressure Regulator,
- Fuel Rail Assembly, and
- Fuel Injectors.
1.- Fuel Pump (Sender Assembly) - TESTING
Refer to the accompanying charts for fuel pump diagnosis and testing.
The fuel injection system remains under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

2.- Fuel Pressure Regulator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(the fuel pressure regulator, which is
located on the fuel rail assembly)
NOTE: Before removing the fuel regulator assembly, place a clean
shop towel under the regulator to catch any fuel drips
To install:
WARNING
The fuel return pipe must be connected before tightening the
regulator retaining screw to prevent the regulator from rotating.
Rotation of the regulator could damage the retainer and spacer bracket
and lead to a fuel leak at the regulator inlet.

Have you checked the automatic shut down relay ?
It powers the injectors from a 20amp fuse number 5.
