Not sure if something else was taken out with the alternator and fuse. I do know what the trouble codes stand for.Not sure yet what I need to do to fix them or reset trouble codes and see if they come back. Do the trouble codes indicate what I need to work on?
The 31 code should be air flow meter or its circuit . I would check it first as that will cause idling issues .
Testimonial: "Thank you Robert. I found a video on the AFM and went out to test it with my VO meter. Found out the night I was putting it together I forgot/didn't see the cable to plug back into the AFM I had taken off to get to the Altenator. Plug the cable in and it is running smooth as can be before the altenator and fuse went out."
Yes, the codes will point you in the right direction. What where the full codes? There should be a letter and four numbers. Comment with the full codes and I'll try and give you some ideas for what to look at.
You'll need an OBD2 scanner or diagnostic software to clear the codes after you have fixed the issue.
OBD2 is 1996 and up and they are the P codes with four numbers . 1989 Toyotas are two codes .
Truck is OBD I and by jumpering EV1 to E1, the check engine flashes a 2 digit code followed by the next code. after all codes are flashed, it repeats the codes. the diagnostics port is only 17 pins and no one seams to have a OBD I analyzer to put on the truck. To clear the codes, is one of 2 ways. Pull the positive terminal on battery for a minute or pull EFI fuse for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
code 24: Intake Air Temp Sensor signal
code 31: Air flow meter signal (vacuum sensor signal)
code 51: switch signal
Those years had limited if any at all data display available . Pretty much had to scope it out .
I re-read the post. I must have misread it as a ‘98’ model.
I've misread several years on these posts . Easy to do : )

Unplug, with engine off, the air flow meter, and see if it will crank and idle .
