92 EXPLORER rear hatch/glass handle/latch not working.

Has outside handle only. To open glass only, turn it CCW; to open entire hatch, turn it CW. But when I accidentally opened glass instead of hatch, I hastily pushed the glass shut at the same time that I was reversing the handle turn direction to CW, and got the mechanism jammed or off it's track. Now, handle is stuck turned in CW position, with hatch/glass firmly closed.

Doesn't seem the interior panel can be removed without opening hatch. Only ready 'access' to hatch innards is via removing a roughly 1" x 3" plastic plug centered a the bottom of the glass. This plug - probably for lubricating lock -allows visual and limited physical access to the 'claw' mechanism of the glass latch, but nothing more.

Using screwdriver, am unable to force the 'claw' to release, and I'm afraid outting too much muscle behind it may only cause further damage, leaving me with the glass flapping in the wind, and the hatch still stuck shut.

Will forcing the mechanism cause damage?

Any way, short of cutting or breaking, to remove interior hatch panel while hatch is closed?

Am in the midst of moving, so I can't do without use of the rear hatch.

SOURCE: The rear latch/handle on our

Here's how I repaired mine. Go inside and remove the plastic 2" square plastic cover. By pushing on the lever inside this area, the latch will release. Push on the door at the same time, when the latch is pushed. With the door open, remove all four screws from the plastic panel. Now pry carefully the big plastic panel off the door. There are plastic snaps holding this on, all around the edges. Now there is another metal cover over the latch mechanism under this panel. Remove this. You now can see into the latch area and put the handle back into the slot where it came out of. You'll see that the ends of the handle can be put back on the round bar, but to hold them in place, I attached 2 nylon ties on one end. You can also purchase a metal push on retainer from the local hardware store. Mine has been repaired for 8 months and had no trouble. Ford used no retainer on these handles and after prolonged use, they bend and the handle can be pulled off. A twenty minute job. Your wife can even do it.

The lift gate latch on my 2006 Subaru Forester sticks. It moves forward to open but must be pushed back to close. How do I fix or replace?

The latch handle pivots are rusted. Getting the handle off requires:
* remove the hatch inner panels.
* remove the nuts that secure the outside time panel under the hatch glass. I don't recall if this is actually needed ...
* remove the nuts that hold the latch handle, and disconnect the rod to the lock mechanism.

You can now either clean up the latch handle or replace it with a new one.

How do you open the back door (no manual)

Rear hatch is locked or unlocked with a key. (if equipped) • To open the rear hatch, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the unlock position and pull up the rear hatch by pressing the handle (DOOR). You can also lock/unlock the latch (but not release it) with the central door lock system. • If unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by pressing the handle (DOOR) and pulling the hatch up. • To close the rear hatch, lower and push down the rear hatch firmly. Make sure that the rear hatch is securely latched.

How do I get my rear hatch door open, when you can't open it from the outside?

You can get it open in two ways: By using your key fob and remotely opening latch or by pulling inside panel on rear hatch and manually pulling lever to get latch to release. Most times when you cant get rear hatch to open normally is because cable from outside release handle to latch broke. Have cable and release mechanism inspected and replace worn or broken parts as needed.

Rear door wont open-hatch or window - can open hatch with inside release

Sometimes there is a safety sensor that does not allow it to open if the vehicle is in gear. This sensor may be faulty but most likely not the problem. Remove the inner panel on the back hatch and inspect the linkages from the outside handles to the releases inside the door for the glass and hatch. These have most likely came loose from the latches they operate

Rear hatch is stuck closed possibly from broken glass in lock mec

Removed the inspection cover for the lock mechanism on the inside of the back hatch and used a screw driver to manually unlatch the door while someone else was pulling on the handle. It turned out there was a lot of glass around the pocket where the lock mechanism was possibly binding the lock

My rear hatch and glass hatch will not open from the outside. The only way to open the lift is via the manual latch. All the other doors woork fine via the remote or inside.

This is extremely common!
The micro-switch inside the glass hatch release is faulty, telling the door that it is partially depressed, thus shutting down opening for safety reasons.
You can verify this by opening the glass hatch (there is a access panel at the bottom of the door on the inside), removing the trim cover from behind the glass handle (two philips screws and one plastic push in fastener), then unplugging the glass handle.
Your door will now function normally, but without glass opening ability until you replace the handle.
The handle only takes a few 10mm nuts to remove and can be changed in a few minutes. It retails for around $35 from your dealer.

How do you manually release the rear hatch in a 2003 kia sedona? The outside latch handle does not work anymore.

This happened to me, I removed the interior light fixture on the rear hatch and reached in to pull the connecting rod, this works for an one off opening, you will need to take the panel off once the hatch is open and repair your outer handle, our connection was broken at the handle which I repaired and it works great. Hope this helps.
