SOURCE: chevy blazer 2w drive 2 door-rear gate wont open
you will need to try to remove the rear door panel on the tail gate or pry it away its not easy because of hidden screws the manually pull the linkage

This is only part of a solution or suggestion. I have the same problem and the car manual says to reach under the tail gate, inside under the carpet and there is an emergency release. I can't find it. It says you need a screw driver or sharp skinny object to do this. Good luck hope you find it. Hope you have your manual.

These rear hatches have a cheesy rod and clip setup. You have to remove the panel from inside, you have to loosen the screws around the hatch and pull it away and reach in down toward the latch and open it that way so you can get the 2 screws out of the bottom easier. There is a peice of plastic in these that's a dust barrier, try not to tear it up too badly, and when you go to put it back, I use a spray adhesive to stick it back on while I put the panel back on. after you get it open you will see a rod with what looks like threads hanging there attached to nothing, and a little thing that has 2 notched areas and a clip to hold that rod into those 2 notches. bend the clip down to make it tighter and then force the rod back into place that should fix your problems. If that's all in place then it's the latch mechanism, usually they can't be fixed because parts aren't available, just have to buy a new one and put it in.
Testimonial: "Thanks very much, I'll give it a try. It's a bugger getting the inside panel off, I tried a few times unsucessfully."

Inside the glove box on the left side there is an on/off switch, which m,ay have been bumped off thereby shutting off the power controls to the hatch. Check that first. Then press the unlock button on your key twice, then test all 3 power hatch buttons to test them, one each on lower left dash by the gas cap door release, one on fob and the one at the hatch. If they still do not work it is possible your door may need to be 'initialized" by your dealer due to power failure. I have seen this with seats and windows but never with the rear door....
