You need to scan the tcm. Code p0700 in the ecm just tells you there is codes in the tcm.

Before you do anything else you are just going to have to read the codes. So buy the maintance book at autozone, locate the little juction box on the fire wall and jump the terminals with a little wire. Then of course sit in the drivers seat turn on the key(do not start) and read the blinks. Then you will know what the problem is.

DTC P0128 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature
Circuit Description
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the temperature of the engine coolant for engine control and as an enabling criteria for some diagnostics. The amount of air flow into an engine is proportional to the amount of heat an engine generates. The ECM monitors the amount of air flow into the engine to calculate engine coolant temperature (ECT). The ECM uses the calculated temperature to determine if the engine has warmed up to the thermostat regulating temperature. If the coolant temperature does not increase normally or does not reach regulating temperature of the thermostat, diagnostics that use the ECT as enabling criteria, may not run when expected. If the engine coolant temperature fails to reach the thermostat regulating temperature, before a predetermined amount of air flow enters the engine, this DTC sets.

DTC P0441 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) System Continuous Purge Flow
System Description
This DTC tests for continuous intake manifold vacuum flow to the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System. The control module seals the EVAP system by commanding the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Closed and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Closed. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor to determine if a vacuum is being drawn on the EVAP system. If vacuum in the EVAP system is more than a predetermined value within a predetermined time, this DTC sets.

DTC P0700 Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates that an emission related transmission DTC set in the transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) receives the TCM DTC information over the serial data circuit. The ECM turns ON the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the TCM sends a message over the serial data circuit requesting MIL illumination. The ECM will also store the freeze frame/failure records data for a transmission DTC. The DTC information for the ECM will only display DTC P0700, but the freeze frame/failure records data will display the transmission DTC that set.
DTC P1781
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• Transmission control module (TCM) detects that malfunction of engine speed signal for 2 seconds
• No DTC U2105
• Engine Misfire Detected

Does the speedometer work ?

I have a 2009 Chevy Avalanche LS and I got the P0700 code, how easy is this to fix? where is the TCM located? If this is a dealer service how much?

DTC P0700: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
The transmission control module (TCM) uses the (GMLAN) to signal the engine control module (ECM) that the TCM is requesting malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. This happens when the TCM has determined that a failure affecting emissions has occurred in transmission control system. When the ECM receives the message from the TCM, DTC P0700 will set.
DTC P0700 can not be cleared from the ECM until the related TCM codes have been cleared.
This is something best left to a qualified repair shop , doesn't need to be the dealer ! AMMCO could fix it . This code is telling that other codes are stored in the transmission control module . Need a professional type or factory scan tool to check these . As to how much it will cost , no telling without knowing the codes in the TCM !

You don't say which engine your's has ! Or which transmission .
Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E

You need to have TCM checked for codes .

I have a trouble codes p0717 and p0700 on a 2006 Cadillac cts 3.6 the car shifts crazy and while pushing on the brake it locks up anyone know what's going on please help

P0717 is for the transmission input speed sensor , which inturn will bring up the other code P0700 for the Trans Control Module , so i would suggest having the codes cleared and see if they come back as sometimes a glitch can occour , if codes reappear and so do the symptoms i would replace the input speed sensor , it reads the primary pulley speed and sends info to the TCM and as far as i know there are no diagnostic s to carry out as this sensor either works properly or fails so get it changed and hope its not the TCM as well, keep me posted if you wish

What part do i need to repalce

Hi Cornejo:
The DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P0700 code is not the actual code that is of concern. The P0700 code is stored in the engine computer.

This code means that there is a code stored in the Transmission computer. The trans computer sends a message to the engine computer that there is a trans code stored. This lets the engine computer turn on the "check engine" light.

You need to have the transmission computer scaned for codes to find out whats going on. Most code readers do not read trans codes, you need to have a scan tool that is able to do this.
This could mean almost any thing. Most trans codes are eletrical related with the allison transmission.
Here is the diagnosis chart for the P0700. Again, this code only means a trans code is set in the TCM, not a actual failure code.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DTC P0700
Circuit Description
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates that a related transmission DTC set in the transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) receives the TCM DTC information over the serial data circuit. The ECM turns ON the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the TCM sends a message over the serial data circuit requesting MIL illumination.

2_15_2012_1_58_02_pm.gif

Conditions for Clearing the DTC graphic
The control modul turns OFF the MIL after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
A scan tool can clear the code from TCM history. The TCM automatically clears the DTC from TCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without failure.

1. Verify power and ground supplies to the TCM when the vehicle is cold.

2. If OK, depending on ambient temperature. If ambient temperature is high and the problem will not show, remove the TCM and place it in a freezer for a couple of hours.
3. If the ambient temperature is low remove the TCM to a warm area for a couple of hours.
4. After sufficiently cold or warm, install the TCM and drive the vehicle immediately.
5. If the ambient temperature is low and the transmission now shifts or the ambient temperature is high and the transmission will not shift replace the TCM.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day

Put trans in works great but has a code po 0700

P0700 is a generic fault code indicating a transmission problem. It's possible it's a left over code from the bad transmission you replaced. You may need to have the code cleared at a transmission shop that uses a different code reader to clear the code. Unfortunately, unlike the standard OBDII code reader, the transmission codes don't always reset themselves after a repair is made.

Car is still drivable, but code P0700 is coming up... is this repairable??

The p0700 is a generic code for a transmission issue. If there is a Auto Zone around your area, have the car scanned for any DTC codes since it's free of charger there. Check the transmission fluid level after going for a drive to warm it up. Make sure that the transmission fluid is not low and that it's not burnt. If your due for a transmission service, take it to a transmission shop to have the transmission fluid and filter changed. Ask them to hook up the tech 2 scanner on the car to look for any DTC codes that indicates why the P0700 was triggered. Good luck and hope this helps, most transmission shop will scan for free of charger if your getting the transmission serviced there. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
