CODE 042 ON A VOLVO S60

042 is brake position sensor code. That sensor is used primarily to cancel the cruise control but may also be used for abs, if your car is equipped. Can you get an odb scan to see why the check engine light is on? The engine light does not indicate oil changes, so something else is wrong. We need that code, which starts with P and has four digits after the P.

disconnect bettery and join the cables together ,leave 10 mins and reconnect and see what happens

167- no change in throttle position sensor range
042- rich condition
...sounds like the throttle position sensor is going bad, unable to measure correct amount fuel per acceleration; sending too much- resulting in a rich (too much fuel) condition.
engine light may begin to flash alerting you that too much fuel consumed at this rate can damage the catalytic converter

Brake lights and cruise control are not set properly.
Easy check - are your brake lights coming on with just the usual light touch of the pedal? If not, then the microswitch that senses that your foot is on the brake needs to be adjusted or replaced

1. Turn the igntion to position I
2. Press and Hold the Trip Odometer Reset Button
3. Turn the ignition to position II and hold until the triangle with the ! mark inside flashes (yellow)
4. Turn ignition off, then back on to confirm reset accepted.

usually if you start to hear a rumble, and by rumble i mean it sounds like a bunch of pieces of metal are clanking around in your exhaust then the catalytic converter needs to be repaired. It could also be the oxygen sensor which is located on top of the converter. Volvo did an interesting job of having them sit on top of each other.

P0042 : Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)bank1, heater control -circuit malfunction.

The code is telling you one of the oxygen sensors or the wiring to it is faulty.

code p2404 is from a none volvo tester it would convert over to volvo code ecm 432a ,leak diag. pump failure,now dont play with it driving should be ok but you should take it to the dealer or a volvo only shop and read codes and fix it when your ready
