It stopped running while I was driving down the highway
2000 GMC Sonoma SLS 4 cdr - It stopped running while I was driving down the highway. The truck smoked a lot and smelled like rubber burning. It doesn't start and makes a noise that sounds like it is humming.

If your battery light came on, and you smelled burning rubber, it could be that your belt that drives the alternator, which charges your battery is broken or flipped upside down. Do not drive with the battery light on or else you will stop dead when the battery does not have enough charge in it to keep the car running. If you decide to drive and not follow my advice, then be sure all extra electrical power is off eg. radio, fan, DVD, lights etc.

Are you trying to reset the "Check Engine Light"? If so, go to your local Autozone/ O'Reilley's/ Advanced Auto and borrow one of their engine code readers. You can reset the CPU using the code reader.
