THE ENCODER MOTORS GO BAD ON ALL THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTED NEW VENTURE GEAR TRANSFERCASES AT SOME TIME. THEY COST ARROUND $400-$500 SO YOU WANT TO GET IT RIGHT. NEED MORE INFO TO HELP YOU FURTHER

Is the truck on the fly 4X4 push button or is there a lever on the floor you pull into 4 wheel drive? Located on the back of the transfer case not hard to change few bolts and a wire harness. Does the front drive shaft turn when you put it in 4x4 and the front wheels won't ingage? If so then its not your transfer case its the actulator on the front axle at the gear hub or pumpkin it will have two 10mm bolts and a black plastic cover if so remove cover and spray actulator shaft with wd-40.

Should be on the front bumper support down low near bottom of radiator .. always look for a yellow connection this is your indication that this is a seat belt connection .. (bright yellow) thanks Jerry

One thing to check, which is often the culprit in these situations is the U-joints. With the truck off, crawl under the vehicle and grab hold of the shaft leading into as well as the shaft going out of your transfer case, If htere is a lot of "slop in it, chance are it is in need of repair. Also I would check the oil level in the transfer case, in an attempt not to challenge you intelligence, there should be a plug located in the lower part about 2 inches from the bottom or so. it usually has a square hole that a 1/2" ratchet fits into. Pull the plug, and stick your pinky into the hole, you should be able to feel the lubricant just below the hole, if not it is in dire need of a filling. also check for metallic remnants in the fluid. this is a sign that things are not as they should be. In that case contact a repairman for a more thorough look.
