Where do i locate 5.9 dodge ram 1500 ground straps on 1997

I got this free Pdf manual from reliable-store for free and I don't think Ive visited a mechanic or fixya for help for more than 3-4 times out of the 20 times I fixed the chipper in these 4 years

It usually goes to the mounting stud on the starter motor Or to a stud on the engine block to ground the electrical system

The instrument panel is loosing its connection to the PCM. Generally caused by loose connectors or dirty pins. Most common location is the under hood breaker box. disconnect + battery terminal...1) Remove box and clean the large screw that connects to contact under box. it gets dirty and grease builds up...2) using ohm meter set on lowest scale measure from - battery to both chassis and engine block...must read less than 50 ohms...if you read 2500 ohms (Example) there is a bad ground from battery to fender, firewall and engine block...You can purchase ground straps...Install straps from - battery terminal to both frame and block...3) check for frayed wiring harness from steering column by emergency break...4) Disconnect all connectors to PCM and clean contacts with DeOxit (radio shack carries this product) ...These are the common faults...If this list does not yield a fix let me know...saailer

ground straps usually attatch to firewall, and frame to the block, most veh have atleast 2 start by looking at frame and firewall for broken ******** either. however you can add one by simply finding a bolt on either frame or firewall, and attatch to and from bolt on block make sure the bolts don't hv plastic or rubber though so it will make good contact. (however if it's just whining, that sounds like the bendix is bad in the starter) have you tried replacing the starter?

i would check the area of the gas tank.

My '97 with the 5.9L gas engine does not. It's grounded from the battery to the frame and a ground strap ran from a bolt under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side(near the oil filter) to the frame

the ground strap you are refering to should be attached to the chassic. look and you will find a hile were a metal screw went into the chassic supporting the strap. hope this will help!!!

on some it goes from motor to firewall or motor to the frame.. you have to have a good eye for it is easily overlooked...good luck

check the engine to body ground strap. located rear top of engine screwed to firewall Remove,clean, and resecure.

i had a problem similar to this a few years back. it would constantly say it was over heating when it was fine. turned out being a grounding strap had came loose. in my case my loose strap was located along the firewall back by the coolant reservoir
