SOURCE: Low Oil pressure light in idle at stop

Depending on the amount of miles, maintenance records, or how hard the car has been driven either by a previous owner, or by yourself. The engine's main crankshaft bearings or the connecting-rod bearings could be excessively worn.

Also, it could very well be a wiring problem to the sensor and/or computer causing the problem.

SOURCE: while i'm idling at a dead stop, the oil pressure

Have the oil pressure tested with an accurate mechanical gauge. often the sending unit goes bad, but without testing it could cost you an engine before you find the problem.
If the mechanical gauge shows same low readings, you have internal engine wear (likely worn crank/rod bearings) Then, it's your decision on whether to drive it till it expires, repair it or buy a new vehicle.

SOURCE: low oil pressure 93 GMC P/U w/350 motor w/205,000 miles gauge

While engine is running, open the cover where you add oil to engine and see if you see a good flow of oil, if good flow, could be as easy as replacing oil sending sensor. got to realize that if poor maintenance history your engine may not be building enough pressure at iddle to move your hydraulic operated valves, only when you rev it up it will pump enough to run smooth. if running engine too long, you may cause more damage to other engine components such as crankshaft and cam shaft bearings. if you can spare a few bucks, have a good mechanic check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. another cheap option is to replace oil pump. last resort if you love your truck as much as we do,replace engine or rebuild it. At 205,000 this is a normal symptom, other than timing chain problems, most engines don't make it that far. hope this helps!

SOURCE: oil pressure low when idling. When running engine

That is normal, my truck , if it had a light , it would be on, the gauge goes to about 0 when idling and flies right back up when going, When it stops moving is when I'll get worried about it. You might try heavier oil this summer and see if that changes anything. Go with a 10w40. If you are already using this, try straight 40 one time. Hope this helps.

Where is oil pressure switch on 1992 ford 150

Most oil pressure switches/sending units were located are near the oil filter. Did you have the same symptoms before you changed the oil pump? How many miles on your engine? As the bearings (main, rod, camshaft, etc) wear, the gap where oil flows through gets larger, and oil pressure will decrease. If a direct reading gauge shows very low oil pressure at idle, it's time to rebuild or replace the engine.

Has 358000 miles, just had leaks repaired. Twice since my oil pressure gauge reads no pressure but not all the time? Why

1. Oil Pressure Gauge Not Working You will notice this happens when your oil pressure gauge is not reading, whether the engine is turned off, idle or running. Try to step on the gas to rev up the engine. If the oil pressure gauge still doesn't change its reading, your gauge is busted. It's best to replace it as soon as possible because you won't have any idea if your car is already overheating or not.
2. Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Too Low When your engine is idle, the oil pressure gauge will have a low reading. When the engine starts running or when you're already cruising or on the freeway, your gauge's reading should have increased. If it stays on a low reading, then you now your oil pressure gauge is broken.
3. Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Too High Another common oil pressure gauge problem is when your oil pressure gauge is reading too high when your engine is idle or when it's turned off. Rep

Does anybody know what the oil pressure specs for the 2006 crown victoria lx 4.6L at idle and at normal operating temp? Mine is reading between 15 and 25 psi. Has 149,0000 on it.

15 seems low. Ford gives a spec of 40-70 psi with the engine speed @ 2500 rpm engine hot. Most cars I see are around the 25 psi @ idle. If your idle is lower than it should be it will make your pressure lower. This should be a direct reading on a good mechnical engine oil pressure gauge.

Low oil pressure after engine warms up in 94 blazer with 4.3

I have a 99 blazer and ever since I have owned it, it reads lower in pressure when idling, but will go up too 40 while driving. This is normal for the vehicle. If the pressure gets real low, and stays low, it means its time for an oil change.

As long as the pressure goes up when you give it gas, it is fine.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance
