Could be a simple oil sender unit failure or wire fell of the sender
However have the oil pressure checked by an accredited service center using a mechanical gauge to make sure that it is not a oil filter /gasket leaking or other serious problem

these cars have problems with bad oil pressure warning switches you may have someone put an oil pressure gauge on the car and make sure your pressure is within spec and go ahead and change the sender if it checks out please rate -jeff

SOURCE: Check oil pressure gague came on and pressure dropped to zero.

Thanks for the input. but did anybody think about the oil pressure relief valve in the pump, right now the engine is running fine and the oil pressure is at normal,i never changed anything, I,m assuming it,s time for a internal cleaning, how about an engine fush and new 5w30 oil every other month. do you think that will help.

SOURCE: 95 jeep wrangler: gauge indicates 0 oil pressure

Wire on oil sending unit may have fallen off or sensor itself may have gone bad. Check both. If engine has no tapping noises, likely it's not a pressure problem.

SOURCE: Oil gauge fluccuates, while driving. Indicates zero

You should have a manual oil pressure test done but this condition idicates the oil pump is weak or the high pressure bypass is sticking open.

SOURCE: 2002 2.5l no oil pressure on gauge. Runs fine...no

You better put a manual gauge on your engine and make sure you have oil pressure. Could just be a faulty gauge or sending unit but I sure as heck would be checking it with a manual gauge.

When driving my 1997 Audi A 4 1.8t there is a loss of power around 3000 rpm, what could be causing the issue?

run the fault codes and look for a problem area in the vane actuator of the turbo
it could be a sensor problem or a MAP sensor problem
this is indicated by the pressures being generated or not generated by a turbo generating pressure from the throttle opening on acceleration or held at constant speed

Engine oil light flashing

Flashing oil light indicates a loss of oil pressure. No oil pressure will cause the engine to seize up. Check the oil level, if full verify that the oil sending unit is connected correctly. Listen for unusual engine noise (Shut down immediately to avoid damage to the engine), connect an oil pressure gauge to the oil sending port (remove sending unit) and verify oil pressure. the issue could be a loose connection, broken connection or plugged sending unit, as well as loss of oil pressure.

IF the oil level is above the hot oil mark when cold then your problem is frothing of the oil from excessive oil . This causes a loss of pressure in the gearbox pump and the pressure is not there to activate the clutches and bands. Correct the oil level to where it should be and if the problem persists have a pressure test done on the gear box.

Losing oil pressure when at idle. pressure is fine when driving

A comparatively quiet engine is often a worn out engine.( Much of the knocking sound in an engine is caused by compression and expansion of gasses, which in a worn out engine is reduced due to leakage of gasses beyond the piston rings or valves.)

You will first have to have the engine pressure tested on each cylinder to ascertain the overall condition.
Usually there are one of two reasons for a low oil pressure warning light or gauge reading.

No.1: The engine is badly worn and oil pressure can leak beyond the piston rings and into the cylinder.

No.2: The oil pump is close to failing or has already failed.

There is also the slight possibility that both of these faults have occurred at the same time.

I have a 1995 olds aurora with a northstar. The oil level is fine but the computer says low oil pressure when at a stop light. Is this the oil sensor or oil pump?

Oil pressure is generally not related to oil level unless the oil level is low.
Oil pressure is created by a pump and as the engine parts wear over time, the oil passes through them easier causing oil pressure to drop.
It is also possible that the loss of pressure is caused by an oil pump that has worn, but don't get your hopes up.
If the vehicle has a lot of mileage, has been driven hard, has not had the oil changed regularly, this occurs.
It is sometimes possible to put additives in your car that are "thicker" than oil and this will give you some time to decide what to do.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L engine. Oil

I'm assuming the engine is still running and no engine noise has occured due to loss of oil pressure, and it is just the gauge that is not reading? If so, the oil pressure switch that is located on the camshaft sensor, could have a bad connection or the oil sensor will need to be replaced. The oil sensor is located on the left side of the engine and is mounting horizontally on the camshaft sensor housing.

'Check gauges" light comes on and oil pressure gauge reads zero.

The first thing I would definitely do there is change the oil. Used oil tends to loose lubricity and becomes thinner than it was when in the container. When hot, it becomes even thinner and will cause a drop in pressure.
Most jeep engines hold around six quarts of oil, so by adding what you did the new oil helped a bit but cannot correct the problem.
I would change the oil and use either a 20w50 oil with a pint of Marvel oil, or change to a good synthetic with a container of Lucas additive. It is possible that whatever oil you have been using is causing a carbon buildup that is beginning to block off the pump pickup screen. Either of the above suggestions will help with that. In engine oils, price is important...cheaper oils are high paraffin base which causes deposits to form.
You don't want that in your engine. Only exception is Wal-mart store brand oil which I believe is Quaker State (re-packaged). If you opt for a synthetic, it's not a bad choice and is cheaper.
Make sure you use a good quality filter. The filter is what keeps the oil clean and useful during its lifespan.
One note... If there is any tapping or knocking inside the engine, that is caused by internal bearing wear and should be corrected immediately. No oil can compensate for internal pressure loss and if caught early, can be repaired. (otherwise, later, engine will need to come out and be overhauled or replaced.)
Any pressure problems can be verified by installing an external mechanical gauge on the engine. That is the only way to know exactly what is going on with any degree of accuracy. (dash gauge is electro-mechanical).
good luck

Oil pressure loss

the 1st thing u do is have the oil pressure tested with a test mechanical gauge by a shop, most times it is just the oil pressure sending unit is defective, but never assume that is the problem, low oil pressure will distroy a $5000.00 engine very quickly, u can just try a new sending unit, but highly recommend a pressure test with a mechanical gauge before you run the engine anymore.
