discovered the hard way- ($85.00 later) Step 1: turn key to "on" position. step 2: open driver door. (security light should be flashing on and off) step 3: wait ten minutes with key in "on position and driver door open. step 4: when 10 minutes is up-(youll know-because security light will have stoped flashing after 10 minutes) close driver door ,turn key to "off" position, then turn key "on" to start. drives me crazy!! I have to do it to mine sometimes 2-5 times a day! GM92 pontiac grand am - 2.gif doesnt have a fuel reset button etc. like fords do.

How do I check the spark plug wires on a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 33? Point one leader V6.

To check the spark plug wires on your 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.3L V6, you can follow these steps:
  1. Locate the spark plug wires on the engine. They are usually connected to the spark plugs on the top of the engine and the ignition coil on the side of the engine.
  2. Inspect the wires for any visible damage, such as cracks or cuts. Also, check the connections at the spark plugs and the ignition coil for any signs of corrosion or looseness.
  3. Use a spark plug wire tester to check the wires for proper resistance. You can purchase a tester at an auto parts store. Follow the instructions provided with the tester to check each wire.
  4. If a wire fails the resistance test, replace it with a new wire. Be sure to replace each wire one at a time to avoid mixing up the order.
  5. After replacing the wires, try starting the engine again to see if the problem has been resolved.
If the problem persists after checking and replacing the spark plug wires, there may be other issues causing the engine to not start, such as a faulty ignition coil or fuel system components. In that case, it may be necessary to take the vehicle to a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

Ok I Have a 1999 pontiac grand am gt coupe. i have an engine sputtering problem when i am driving but when the car is idle it is running fine. what might be my problem and how can i fix this?

you could have spark plugs that need changing or bad plug wires.the fuel injectors could be dirty not allowing enough fuel to be burned.at idle there isn`t enough load to cause a noticeable miss fire.

My 1999 pontiac grand am(v6) runs fine till you go to get on the highway or have to go up a hill then the rpms go up the car starts to fluctuate(**** or sputter) really bad were I wonder if I will make it...

my first though is a plugged catalytic converter. This can be checked with a back pressure gauge or by dropping the exhaust where it bolts to the back manifold and then test driving to see if the power is restored.

The second that is a bad MAF sensor. It is located in the air snorkel between the throttle body and the air filter box. You can try unplugging it and see if it drives better.

Lastly it could be as simple as bad ignition wires, plugs, or a coil.

Is the check engine light on? If it is the stored codes would give you some direction to start.

My 92 oldsmobile royale starts fine but after engine gets to normal temp the car starts to sputter and drive funny then will stop running.

Lightly tap on the case of the ECM, (silver box behind glove box) while it is running fine to see if it shuts down. If so. Replace ECM. Those were bad about the components on the board inside vibrating loose.
