I think you've got it backwards cranking is when the engine is rotating from the starter turning over is the engine going from cranking to running that being said you need someone to check for spark from the coil/s and also if you have a distributor cap and rotor to inspect them inside and the spark plugs if all are good try spraying fuel injection cleaner or gas into the throttle body if it runs and then dies you have a fuel delivery issue listen for the fuel pump to energize when you turn the key if you don't here it then there's a problem with that system, pump module relay fuse ok good luck stephen
I have had this problem twice on my 2004 Xterra. Distributors are known to fail. I would recommend checking distributor.
SOURCE: My 2005 nissan altima won't crank or turnover. It justs makes this clicking noise. Can you help me?
The click is most likely the starter solenoid you hear
Should be a familiar sound you've heard may times
on other cars
I would guess you know how old the battery is?
If it is original,it is 8 years old & dead,if so, replace it
If it is only 3 years old ,check the voltage with a meter
Next the solenoid could be working as you hear it,but
it's contacts are burnt,it can be replaced
You remove the starter & change the solenoid
Don't want to do that, buy the entire starter at auto parts,
not a dealer, cost too much to even be there for any reason.
Testimonial: "Turns out it was the crankshaft sensor, but now it's doing the same thing again. Won't crank. This time I think it is the starter."
SOURCE: 87 Ford ranger will not crank. it will turnover
Turning over & cranking is the same thing
Check for fuel pressure at motor with a gauge
when you turn the key on
Check for spark or injector pulse when cranking
If the motor won't turn at all, check relays & possible
bad starter,neutral sw,ignition sw
