SOURCE: WHERE IS THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ON A 1999 ALERO

b693539.jpg Bolted to the side of the throttle body.

CLICK HERE to see a generic picture with the sensor mounted on the right side.

Theres a black plastic "box" above the throttle assembly...
Remove that to get to the throttle position sensor underneath.
If you can locate the two wires that control the throttle assembly...then the throttle position sensor is on the other side of the throttle assembly. Remove the large tube that goes from the air filter to the black plastic "box" above the throttle assembly.
Also disconnected anything else connected to that black plastic "box". Then pull "box" up and right there on the left side of the throttle assembly is the throttle assembly sensor.

1999 alero rpm goes up and down

Could be a number of things causing this:

1. Bad MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor can cause erratic idling
2. Dirty fuel injectors
3. Dirty or worn spark plugs
4. Bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) this controls engine idling speed under all conditions

How do I install throttle position sensor on 2001 oldsmobile alero

Hi,

I have a 2004 Alero ( similar procedure in your model as well ) and I just figured out today and replaced my throttle position sensor. I'm not sure what the black plastic "box" is called that is above the throttle assembly...but I had to remove that to get to the throttle position sensor underneath. If you can locate the two wires that control the throttle assembly...then the throttle position sensor is on the other side of the throttle assembly. I had to remove the large tube that went from the air filter to the black plastic "box" above the throttle assembly. Also disconnected anything else connected to that black plastic "box". Then pulled that "box" up and right there on the left side of the throttle assembly was the throttle assembly sensor. Here is a web page with a picture that helped me figure out where it was :-

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

How to replace 2000 Alero cmp sensor?

On the 2.4 litre engine it is mounted on the cylinder head.
On the 3.4 litre engine it is mounted under the throttle body near the area where the transmission and engine meet.
Both sensors are held in place by one bolt.

Olds alero 2.4 idle fuel pressure

most likely idle air control sensor or low engine coolant I know sounds funny but IAC uses coolant to regulate idle. Idle air control valve or throttle body positioning sensor.
