My BMW X5 E70 wont fill up at the petrol pump; the venture valve on the pump cuts the fuel off every couple of seconds. I have a UK vehicle no carbon canister or vent recovery system.

hi working at one of the largest travel center compines in the country i have run across a lot of this. the problem is not in the car it is the pump. being that our country is in such a rush to do every thing most gas stations dile there pumps to pump gas as fast as possible this in turn makes the fuel foam up cousing the auto shut off the engage thus stoping the pump try pumping the fuel slower and thi will fix this also the filler neck is smaller it diamiter witch componds the problem next time pump slower and slow down the fuel flow and this will help

it sounds like you may have a fuel tank vent valve staying closed causing pressure in the tank when filling up.
