You have not said where the knocking noise was coming from, If you have the usual detachable tow hitch on it, and you do not have enough weight in the trailer on the front end (hitch) then you will have a rythmic knocking sound from the rear. Usually it gets worse when you are in the slow lane of a dual carriage way rather than the fast lane (due to Lorries creating undulations in the tarmac surface.

you might search for a burnt fusible link that feeds that harness...try looking where the battery cable is connected to the starter motor underneath.sometimes you cant tell if a fuse wire is burnt...you gotta tug on it slightly...if it stretches like rubber, the wire inside is burnt/separated and designed to do so there instead of frying the whole harness

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

Hi,
The towing capacity of 2006 dodge grand caravan is around 2000lbs unless you have the optional towing group which allows you a towing
weight oh up to 3800lbs.
You can increase the towing capacity, but it wouldn't be worth it...stiffening up the rear suspension to carry a slightly higher tongue weight (which will then result in axle failure) and then increasing the cooling capacity of the transmission.
You would also have to increase the horsepower of the engine as it can't pull that effectively.
The best way to increase the towing capacity? Replace the vehicle...you are just going to be a hazard on the road and risk yours and others lives :-( Sorry, not the answer you wanted.
Good Luck!!
Thanks!!
