SOURCE: Replacment of wheel lug bolts on rear wheels

The bolts can be replaced 1 of 2 ways w/o pulling axle. Need to take rotor off and either press bolts out with an arbor press or can be tapped out with a copper or brass hammer. Once out, the new ones can be pressed in by putting about 4 or 5 washers on and then tightening the lug nut down until the lug is pulled snug into the roter. Once snug, the roter can then be reinstalled on the wheel and brake assy put back. Caution!! Brake assy needs to be supported up out of the way with wire or coat hanger while removing rotor. Undo force of weight on brake pad assy can damage hose or unit itself.

Take wrench and put on nut, loosen nut, take nut off the rest of the way, do this till you have no nuts left, take tires off, put nut on the bolt just on the end covering the threads and pound them out with a hammer, pull new ones back in with the nuts.

SOURCE: Removing Lug bolt plate from car

HI:
Stop!!! The "round plate" that the wheel studs are mounted to is your hub assembly. To replace a broken stud, you simply need to use a hammer and a drift pin punch, and pound it backwards. You replace it in similar fashion: insert the new wheel stud in from the back side of the hub, and use the wheel lug nut to draw the new stud into the hub assembly.

I've got a sts 05 cadillac rear wheel lugs broke off. How do i replace them?

The ligs push through the back of the disk and are held in place by friction. To get them out you need to remove the dust cover from the rear of the plate they are sticking through, grab a blunt punch and pound them back know through. To reinsert the new ones simply put the replacement stud through the back of the plate as far as you can .. Place the tire and rim back on and tighten the nut until they pull into the seated position.

Lug nuts and studs.

There is usually a notch in the backing(dust) plate or on the spindle itself so that the studs can be pushed through. Every now and again, depending on the vehicle you will have to remove the backing(dust) plate.
The easiest way to replace them is to do with an Impact hammer with a flat valve attachment. It will force them out and press them back in place without too much of an effort. But be sure to run a nut down flush with the hub initially when installing the studs to ensure they are installed straight. If they are installed at an angle you could run the risk of reaming out the splines and end up have to replace the whole hub.

Rear axle 02 escalade need to remove to replace dust shield

-chalk the wheels so the vehicle can not roll.
-Place the transmission in nuetral.
-jack up the rear of the vehicle.
-remove the real wheels-
-remove the drums or calipers and rotors.
-remove the rear diff fill plug on the side of the differential.
-remove the center cover on the rear differential. Have a drain pan under it to catch the lube that will come out.
-rotate the drive shaft until the rear diff pin bolt is accessible and remove the bolt.
-remove the rear diff pin
-push the axles in
-remove the c clips from the axles
-pull the axles out
-replace the backing plate/dust shield.

They do make a two piece backing plate that can be installed without removing the axles. You will unbolt the old backing plate then cut it into two pieces to remove. The new two piece backing plate will slide over the axle and then bolt into place. I know for sure NAPA has them.

You can remove the hub carrier (bolts are behind the backing plate).

Don't pound on it, you will ruin the non-serviceable bearings. Put the lug thru and put a new lug nut on it. Us an air gun to draw the lug up snug.
