The whirring noise is coming from the engine cranking. We spoke to a Mazda expert on the app. He told us to spray carb cleaner directly into the brake booster vacuum line and if no start then not a fuel issue.

And the fuel injector is spitting when pulled.

  • Grant Webb Mar 07, 2018

The whirring noise can be many things, a cold engine can make that noise on turn over, To start it you can spray easy start directly into the air intake, if it starts then it's definitely a fuel problem!! if not it has to be electrical!!

It doesn't start when spraying starting fluid into the intake. We're also thinking electrical, but we can't figure out what it could be. New spark plugs and wires. New battery. New crankshaft sensor. Everything is plugged in. Any suggestions?

Is the alternator charging, if they go down, they sometimes whine and stop the car from starting...

  • Grant Webb Mar 08, 2018

I assume you have a signal at the starter switch ie power, it has not by some chance got an immobilizer that has switched the power of to ignition??

The alternator is good. We have a tester for that. We do have signal at the starter switch. 2 different mechanic friends told us to take it apart and check the timing because the belt may have slipped.

    We're working on that now.

well, with all that you have changed the only two possible things that are left PCM and the ECM....

Do you have an alarm system on this vehicle? If you purchased this car second hand it may have something that is inhibiting the engine from firing. From what you have told us here that would be where I would start looking.

I really hope this is helpfull

SOURCE: wont start. fuel pump klicks once only. no spark from plug wire

First check the fuses from the battery. The distributor is used to induce the induction coil which in turn sends it to the plug. Hence the contact point of the arm(silver contact point) needs to be replaced.....sodeep

Why won't this Mazda 3 start? (Lengthy description)

No fuel pump and no ignition. That sounds like the immobiliser does not recognise the ECU or engine management system.
Good luck with that then!

My 94 mazda protege will crank but wont start. I replaced rotor and cap. Battery. Air sensor. When i try to turn over a thud comes fron the air sensor. Help please!!

If it won't start, have you checked for spark and fuel pressure? Remove one plug wire and ground it over the engine. Crank the engine and see if there is spark. IF spark is present, check fuel pressure to see if the pump is working. If spark and fuel are present, check for cracked air hose from air filter housing to throttle assembly allowing unmetered air into the engine. Also check for timing belt issues

I have a 98 Camaro I put a fuel pump in fuel filter an my car still won't start.Do thank the gas line clog up?

If you know for a fact the pump is getting power and ground, and nothing is coming out of the line before the filter, then yes the line could be clogged up.

Mazda protege no start

There can be a misfire too from the cylinders.

An engine that hesitates, stumbles or misfires when accelerating or when it is under load is an engine that is either sucking too much air, not getting enough fuel or misfiring. If the Check Engine Light comes on, you may find any of the following codes:

• P0171, P0174 Lean fuel condition codes
• P0120 to P0124 Throttle position sensor codes
• P0222 to P0229 Throttle position sensor codes
• P0400 to P0409 EGR related codes

If there are no misfire codes, a common cause of acceleration stumble is a bad throttle position sensor (TPS). The TPS tells the computer how far the throttle is open. The computer uses this information to determine how much fuel is needed to maintain the correct air/fuel mixture and when extra fuel is needed if the throttle suddenly opens wide.

Another common cause is dirty fuel injectors. If varnish deposits have built up in the tips of the injectors, they won’t spray as much fuel as they normally do, or will “dribble” fuel instead of spraying a fine mist. This creates a lean fuel mixture and conditions that are ripe for stumble and hesitation (also misfire). Look at short term fuel trim (STFT) and long term fuel trim (LTFT) with your scantool. If the numbers are high, it tells you the engine is running lean and the injectors need cleaning. Treat mild cases with a high quality fuel-injector cleaner additive. Severe cases require professional cleaning equipment.

Also if this sensors apply to your vehicle, camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor if sensors bad you don't get any spark. Also run a scan on the car.

Good luck and rate this solution, please.
