first remove the timing cover afer remove also remove the crankshaft pully.
now you can see timing belt clearly next remove the valve cover to see valves.
Rotate the engine by hand you can see where you remove the engine bully key grove that key should be top side while you rotating the engine there is mark like -- on the cover behand where you remove the pully so that mark and the crank shark key should in lined.
after that look the injection pump pully you can see front side mark --- look the engine direct behand the bully you can see mark that two mark should be in line have look the engine valves first cylinder should be close and the 4cylinser exhaust valve open.

have you checked the glow plugs if they are ok then you need to calidrate your injectors.

Had difficulty pulling away from a car park, massive loss of power resulted in car stalling when applying throttle and huge greyish smoke. I now beleive that this is the problem the resulted in the abrupt car stalling on motorway thankfully on the slow lane. It just stopped dead. What caused this

Hi Daw, As you've already checked the crankshaft sensor, sounds to me as if the problem may be from the camshaft pickup sensor. If that one also proves fine you'll need to have the anti theft system re-coded. The anti theft unit cuts the injection. Regards John
