SOURCE: my 2005 ford explorer 4x4 xlt (v8 4.6 ltr)has

P2106 is an informational code and is usually set by some other fault.

This DTC means is that the PCM detected a fault with the electronic throttle control and went into fail safe mode. It doesn't tell you specifically what system or component went haywire, just that something was wrong, the PCM didn't know what to do so it went to a known good operating parameter, in this case fail safe mode. Likely is a problem with the TPS sensor and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Why is my 2002 Ford Explorer V8 cranks but won't start?

No spark or no gas. Are you sure the gas gauge acurrate? When you turn the ignition key from Off to Run, but not all the way to start, listen carefully for the sound of the fuel pump. If you don't hear anything, check the fuse. If the fuse is good the pump may be bad.

Remove a spark plug wire and hold the metal end close to [but not touching!] a metal ground [use a pair of insulated pliers to keep from possibly getting shocked. Have a helper crank the engine. If you see a spark, the ignition is probably ok, although that's not 100% certain, as the timing or dwell angle could still be off.

Good luck!

What does the ide cables look like in a 1998 ford explorer

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you do not have an idle cable. You have an IAC valve. That's assuming you have the 4.0 v6. The XLT and one version of the Eddie Bauer package came with the v8.

Low pressure in the system and the clutch will not engage. The low pressure sensor is on it for a reason.
