Either you have a faulty oil pressure switch or the pick up screen of the oil pump is clogged. I would change the switch first as it's 10 bucks not expensive then go on from there

Testimonial: "Thanks guys I have put a new oilpump in 3 weeks back with new oil, sump is cleaned out.But the problem still goes on."

SOURCE: 1992 VW Polo 1.3L Coupe: warning light mystery

Polo Coupe 1043,1992, Will not start, can be bumped started, sometimes!!, theres a strange clicking noise from under the air box, when the ignition is on and sometimes the oil pressure light comes on when the car gets upto temperature, then I lose all power and then the engine cuts out. I've recently changed the dizzy cap, rotor arm and battery, all the leads are new ish along with the spark plugs. The previous owner has changed the head and done all that, leaving much of the engine loom unlagged and bare. Could this cause a problem on some of the electrical systems?

SOURCE: VW Polo 1998 Model runs fine for about 5 km

check all vacume hoses for splits.this sounds also like air being drawn from the fuel tank sender unit which could be corroded.is there a strong smell of fuel inside the car?this could also be a secondary jet being blocked in the carb if it has one.good luck

SOURCE: vw polo 1.4 1999 oil light comes on at 3000 revs

Had exactly the same problem, completely baffled us until we discovered that the it was the oil pressure switch. We had already replaced it with a new one and then that didnt fix it so we fitted a new oil pump, but as soon as it was revved over 3000 revs the oil light came on. It turns out that there is actually a choice of 2 oil pressure switches for this car (1999 1.4 polo) one works only low pressure (black cap) and is the wrong one, the other works on a higher racio (green cap) its the high pressure one you need. If the oil light was on at tick over or below 3000 revs then its the lower oil pressure switch needed, above 3000 its the higher one. The parts people insisted there was only one, but there is definately a choice of 2 and it fixed ours instantly.
If it was an older model they actually have 2 switches on the car itself and one is a high pressure and one is a low pressure (just incase anyone needed to know)

SOURCE: the oil pressure light and alarm keeps going off

Incorrect level. Check level at operating temps and while the engine is running. By sump and stainer you meant that you removed the oil pan off the car and cleaned the pickup tube of the oil pump? I'd suggest hooking up an oil pressure gauge so you'll know which part of the engine is starving oil and setting the warning.

Oil light keeps comeing on ???

Remove the electric sender and install mechanical oil gauge to check that you have proper oil pressure. Bet ya the main bearings are not fitted correctly or the engine wasn't cleaned during overhaul and now bearings are trashed.

VW POLO 1.6 2002 classic

I have already a solution to my problem. Remember, when I posted, that my 1997 VW Polo Classic, that it won't start even it has sparks coming from the "spark plugs" and the timing was set already. Yesterday, My mechanic was puzzled, why the intake manifold has a very low pressure. Just this morning when he opened. It was clogged with "tartar" like material. It includes the valve & piston. Therefore, it is impossible to have combustion. Because, it lacks the fuel & air even how much sparks is present. I hope this could help to VW cars owners having the same trouble.

1992 VW Polo 1.3L Coupe: warning light mystery

Bought a very reputable diy service manual for the vehicle, and that plus a bit of thought and nous gave me the cure: no intrinsic problem other than loose relay connections. Went round with the wiring diagrams as guide checking all electrical connections in tight and relays fuses etc all good. Switched on and no problem any more.

By the way, vehicle is 1992 VW Polo - not Fox (which in UK is a variant of the Polo)
