This connection is used for operation diagnostic.
A good chance that your car does NOT have one. OBDll was not required by law until 1996.
Some manufacturers had there own systems before then.
I found the following web reference:
"Sorry fellas, the 1989 XJS has no onboard diagnostics at all. It only has a red feedback monitor hookup [with a blanking cap] back near the fueling ECU in the boot. It was used for mixture setup and that's pretty much it.
The trip computer fault code readout didn't arrive until 1992."
The trip commuter readout he refers was a way to get codes (after certain steps taken) to show up in the trip computer display.
For OBDll compliant cars .... the port has to be within 3 feet of the driver with full access .... usually under the dash
Helpful?
Got your answer,do note 1989 XJS has a OBD1 diagnostic socket, located above left hand rear wheelwell(in boot).
1990/1991 XJS has Marelli Digital Ignition,
wiring schematic shows diagnostic socket off
ECU on Right'A'Post trim panel location.
Hope this info. is helpful!

SOURCE: 1989 jaguar xjs v12 fuel mixture
Chances are the coolant temperature sensor or its wiring have failed, or the vacuum line to the MAP sensor is leaky or broken (I believe the V12 in '89 guise uses MAP sensors). The MAP sensor measures Manifold Absolute Pressure. Along with this pressure the ECU looks at engine RPM. It also measures air temperature. Knowing pressure and temperature we know density, and knowing engine speed tells us how much volume of air is going through the engine. All of this together is computed into air mass and is used to calculate how much fuel mass should be admitted. If the vacuum line is broken, the ECU reads less vacuum and produces rich mixture thinking that the engine is under high load.

Next to the "Pop the hood" lever inside the car.
SOURCE: Where is the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) connector on the car.
It is under the dashboard, driver side. White, oblong female connector. One row of pins not as long as the other.
SOURCE: No oil pressure what so ever in v12 jaguar
have you tried reversing the pipes and see if that makes any difference other than that there must be a pressure difference between the two pumps try priming the filter with oil before starting.

There are two 13mm bolts in the back window under the carpet that have to be removed. Remove the two plastic screws, Remove the carpet and find the two 13mm bolts..
