Principles of Operation
The power liftgate is controlled by the power liftgate module.
The power liftgate module receives inputs from:
  • glass position switch (determines the ajar status of the liftgate glass).
  • forkbolt switch (determines the primary position of the latch).
  • detent switch (determines the secondary position of the latch).
  • home switch (determines the power cinch status).
  • power liftgate control switch (activates the power liftgate from the interior of vehicle).
  • pinch strip switches (determines if an obstacle is detected between the pinch strip and liftgate).
  • instrument cluster module (activates and sets the options for the power liftgate).
  • optical sensor (determines the direction, travel speed and obstacle detection of the liftgate).
  • UBP serial communication link.
The power liftgate module sends outputs to:
  • liftgate motors.
  • power cinching latch system.
  • liftgate chime module.
  • body security module
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The liftgate consists of the following components:
  • liftgate window glass latch
  • door lock actuator (power liftgate only)
  • liftgate latch
  • liftgate handle
  • liftgate latch remote control (power liftgate only)
  • liftgate ajar switch

SOURCE: 1993 jeep grand cherokee liftgate wont open

i just fixed the liftgate on my 1998 JGC Laredo this afternoon: door handle, when lifted, does not release latch mechanism

here is a solution that may apply to you...

1. open liftgate flipper window
2. remove door panel screws from inside
3. use coat hanger to pull up on locking mechanism arm (at the bottom) to release latch mechanism
4. with door now open, remove remaining door panel screws to completely remove door panel
5. adjust the positioning of the latch rod in its retaining clip (open clip and reposition rod)
in my case, I had took much slack and repositioned the rod by a few threads (about 1/8th inch) in the clip.
be sure rod is seated fully in the clip and that the clip is securely closed
5. test your fix before re-assembling everything

want a long, detailed version? let me know.

SOURCE: how to replace liftgate support

Hi ... You need two people, two new gas struts a small screw driver and a thirteen mill open end spanner.....
Change one at a time with the second person supporting the tailgate, dependant on what type is fitted the struts will have a metal "c" clip that needs to be removed at both ends on the ball joint sockets, prise the clips out and remove the strut, and replace in reverse order.... if you have the struts with the ball and sockets at each end you need to support the tailgate with your by now long suffering partnre and undo the nut and socket in the body and tailgate.... they, once loosened will come out easily..... just make sure that when refitting you dont cross threads... repeat same on the other side and then give friend a cold beer..... hope this helps..... The power liftgate on our 2013 Nissan Pathfinder will not open with the liftgate button or close with the button on the top of the liftgate. Could it be the fuse? which fuse controls the liftgate?

Could it be the fuse ? More then likely not a fuse . Automatic back door system has two electronic control modules involved in the operation of the opening an closing of the door .BCM - body control module and the automatic back door control module . Your best bet ,have a qualified repair shop diagnose the problem .

Location of the liftgate control module on a 2013 Cadillac SRX

Hi Mitch, I had to ask the same question and seeing as this is the top link on Google I'd like to say that Marvin is incorrect. The lift gate control module sits right behind the insert in the spare tire compartment. You should be able to get to it with no tools at all as the plastic screw that holds the styrofoam on place is easily turned by hand. Hopefully this will help you and others in the future!

Jeep grand cherokee alarm system

The 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Anti-Theft System is equipped with Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS). VTSS system monitors vehicle doors, hood, liftgate and ignition. If an attempt is made to enter or operate vehicle without proper disarming of system, vehicle horn will sound, headlights, taillights and parking lights will flash, and engine will be prevented from running.

The following wiring diagram and electronics circuit contains detail schematics of The 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Anti-Theft System. Herein you will find interconnection between electronics parts of the system such as body control module, auto headlamp light sensor. VTSS led, driver door module, passenger door module, cylinder lock switch, junction block, power distribution center, and grounding. Herein you will learn also how the Vehicle Theft Security System works, removal, installation, testing and troubleshooting procedures.

Try HERE and also, remember that here can find the Jeep Grand Cherokee Service Repair Manual.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. The overhead panel says liftgate open but it isnt. I have tightened and oiled everything I can see on the liftgate. No results. Help

There is a switch, most likely built into the latch, that tells the body control module when the liftgate is open or closed. If that fails what you experience will happen. An open / shorted wire or bad BCM or overhead panel will also cause the "liftgate open" indicator to be on. Try and locate the switch and look for obvious damage.
