I personally would check the fuel pressure. Then I would go back to the coil. I have seen brand new bad coils out of the box. The symptoms of a loss of power point to this component, especially if the car idles well, but loses power when accelerating. Please do not rate this reply - we all are left to grasp at straws since you have changed pretty much everything. Good Luck. Please post the final fix of the problem.

SOURCE: CAM SENSOR ENGINE LIGHT. MAX RPM 2000 SOMTIMES

I seen this before first of all don't let the car dealer to BS the way to your money, most of the time is noting wrong whit the sensor it self but is the plug than goes in to the sensor this what i recommend is to buy another sensor from your local auto part store or salvage yard (cheaper) get three pieces of cable and solder directly in to the sensor brake the plastic around the sensor plug if necessary and secure the three cables to it put some silicon in between the solder and the place the new sensor on top of the old one so you now wish wire goes to which and cut and attach one by one. I now this works 100% i have done it my self many times if you need diagrams or sensor locations you can find that at www.alldatadiy.com now if you still have problems unplug all harness especially all the ones than comes from the back of the engine because that engine tends to leak oil on top of the harness if you have wires doing shortcut replace that section you can solder use heat string tube and change the insulation hose they sale those on part stores to put some zip tides on the ends and you will have your car back and will last Note don't let it get to close to the exhaust use zip tides to keep from touching hot areas.

97 jeep jz 2 wheel dr 4.0 starts stalls

I HAVE THE BOOKS OEM SERVICE MANUALS
AND OWNED MANY JEEPS 1988 TO 2010 AND 1999
IM GLAD you never messed with CKP the crank sensor as it must be calibrated, or is wrecked doing it wrong.
THE cmp DISTRIB BASE SENSOR IS ONLY FOR INJECTOR SYNC,NOT SPARK TIMING AT ALL.
AND IS LOCKED IN PLACE THIS YEAR.
spark timing is via CKP cranked.and running.

still have both PCM's?
that stalling has over 50 causes. EFI + engine.
CAN NOT SAVE THE STALL WITH FAST RIGHT FOOT ?
ZJ = GEN1 GRAND CHEROKEE
IS IT USA SPEC CAR?
WITH ANY CAR LIKE THIS WE DO THE TESTS IN THE CORRECT ORDER, TO SAVE LABOR,MONEY AND DOWN TIME.
a scan tool pays for itself first time used

CHECK ALL FUSES FIRST. A 20 CENT PART,

STEP2
SCAN THE PCM THE OBD2 16PIN SCAN PORT. SEE ERRORS CRANKING AND AT STALLS.???

1997 CARS ALL SCAN IN USA BY LAW SO SCAN IT.

SEE LOST SPARK, CKP ,CMP OR OTHER ERRORS THOSE ARE REAL, AND MOST NEVER BE IGNORED , WHY FOLKS FEAR A CHEAP SCAN TOOL IDK.?

IF YOU GET DTC ERRORS FOR ASD RELAY DROPPING OUT THIS CAN BE JUST SIMPLE SHORTED INJECTOR OR SHORTED O2 SENSOR
OR SHORTED SPARK COIL. or a dead CKP.

CAR IS 26 YEARS OLD AND WE DO A
FULL COMPRESSION TEST NOW, 150PSI AND UP ALL 6 CYL. DONE WOT, WIDE OPEN THROTTLE.

THEN CHECK FOR SPARK ON ALL 6
IF ASD DROPS OUT FUEL AND SPARK GOes DEAD.
IF SPARK IS AlWAYS DEAD, CHECK SPARK AT THE COIL DIRECTLY, USING TEST SPARK PLUG THERE.
if spark lasts say 3 seconds well that is ASD dropping out or..

NEXT IF ALL THAT IS OK WE USE TEST FUEL
WE USE A CAN OF INSTANT START FUEL
AND AIR FILTER OUT SPRAY IT 3 SECONDS INTO MAIN INDUCTION AIR HOSE. THERE.
AND CRANK IT.
IT RUNS FOR 3 SECONDS EACH TRY.
AND ENGINE SOUNDS GOOD.
BUT IF ASD DROPS OUT , WE MUST FIND OUT WHY NOW.
CKP PROBLEM THIS YEAR IS HALL SENSOR
VERY POWERFUL,
MOST JEEPS THAT RUN FOR 1 SECOND
THE ASD DID DROP OUT. SCANS TELL YOU IT DID.
BAD RELAY OR ANY SHORT ON OUTPUT OF ADD.
OR IF PCM SEES SPARK DEAD AFTER STARTING ENGINE IT DROPS OUT ASD. THIS KILLS FUEL DEAD TOO, AND PREVENTS FUEL FIRES IS WHY.
IF ALL ABOVE IS OK WE TEST FUEL PRESSURE LAST TO SPEC CRANKING.
THE JEEP MAY HAVE IMMO LAMP ON DASH GLOWING WRONG, AND CUT FUEL DEAD.
CHAPTER 8Q IN JEEPS SERVICE MANUAL
titled
Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS)
VTSS tripped does engine no run feature.
I bet it drops out ASD in 1 to 10 seconds, as most cars do ,IMMO not happy. if not happy horn honks,
if you car has VTSS.(it is an option 1997)

IF THE CKP IS BAD, PLEASE NOTE THE NEW SENSOR HAS 2 THINGS, THE SCREW HOLE IN IT IS SLOTTED, TELLING YOU, GEE IT MUST BE CALIBRATED AND THE NEW SENSOR HAS a GAP SETTING BUFFER STICKER ON THE TIP.(BS)
if installing a used CKP sensor, the sensor is destroyed at first crank and ASD relay drops out.
this BS buffer sticker must be there at install., must.

ckp-undefined-undefined-0_4.jpg not a guess ,not saying I know what is wrong? yet
but I did tell what tests to do to find it and i sure can do it.

Stratus 2000 . Want to start but nothing

2000 Dodge Stratus. with Automatic transmission?
No engine size stated, so all answers are GENERIC.
will it crank, if it dont crank over fast post that.
no engine starts, unless cranked or with MT/ push started or gravity started.
i think "wants" means it cranks , over, ROBUSTLY.
i have a text file here for no starts. (cranks ok)

quote(me):"
Gas engines: (Otto Cycle)
the classic, engine has good spec.1-compression, then 2-good spark and last 3- good fueling still works.
123, simple,called basics.

I will call the ECU a PCM.(modern named) and USA spec, cars only.
Powertrain control Module (the magic device, that runs fuel injection and spark)

Check all fuses using any Ohmmeter (resistance) or any DMM with one inside. Zero Ohms or less than 1 is a good fuse.

The PCM can not run any engine, if 12vdc electrical power is missing on any car. Use the same meter to be sure the PCM has full 12.6vdc power from the battery, key on.

The CIG lighter port is a convenient test point. just key on 12.6vdc
If the IMMoblizer lamp glows, the engine will not start.
If the security lamp glows, on many cars the car will not start. (read the operators guide it explains all this in the section "how to start your engine"

The CEL lamp must glow key on, if not?, that means the PCM is DEAD.
There are 3 or more PCM fuses, and are already tested.

On 1996 and newer cars (USA) if the scan tool can not communicate, then the ECU is dead, (or fuses blown )
OK , key on CEL out , IMMO out , Security out.

Crank for 5 seconds, with scan tool attached, see DTC's now? BINGO.!
All PCMs can report bad sensors cranking. Even the old OBD1 cars.

SPaRK, if there are no DTC errors, there might spark now on, all cylinders.
check them all ,because, 1 bad and all bad are two different causes.

If spark is 100% dead , many cars you can remove the distributor cap to see of cam spins, if not?,the cam belt snapped. or on some, with no actual distributor, you can look down inside the oil filler cap hole and see the cam spin.(cranking)
if the CAM stops spinning,. ANY ! PCM WILL report that. (CMP dead) cmp = cam sensor.

NEXT:
I check for spark and if it's good on all cylinders, I then check spark timing, ) see if timing is way off?, that means the cam belt or (hard to believe; chain slipped) fix that now. (a strobe light is $20 today)
strobe = automotive spark timing light.

SPARK GOOD, now (last )
NEXT FUELING:
As Scotty shows, he then uses test fuel; if car runs good, for 3 seconds, then you have all things good, so far and , just bad (dead) fueling if engine runs only 3 seconds, on test fuel.
SAY NO fuel injected?
check fuel pressure is over 30PSI, (see fsm for spec) and use a NOID light to see if the PCM is sending injecton pulses.
You can listen to injectors with a stethoscope, but is hard to hear cranking. (i have special tool for that)
there are up to 6 tests for the fuel pressure, including leakdown, shunt test and balance.

OK it's flooding. (spark tips soaked in fuel)

Please be aware that leaking injectors (1 or or more) can cause no starts and is flooding , if I suspect it (black cloud at tail pipe end) I do the injector leakdown and balance test ,now)
To clear flooding, crank with the throttle wide open, this trick cuts fuel.
if it still foods you can pull the fuel pump relay to kill the pump , the crank it dry.

Flooding is a whole set of tests. to find true cause.
Too high fuel presssure, say 65 PSI or more?
ECT stuck at -30F degrees?
injectors leaking.
no startup air supply , ISC stuck closed?
end, (ask for help for any of these possible paths)"

2000 Grand Caravan cranks but doesn't run. If I bypass the automatic shut-down relay it'll run for about 3 seconds, but starts surging and conks out. Both the cam & crank position sensors test okay....

the pcm energizes that relay. should be a dark blue wire with a yellow stripe going from pcm pin 67 to pin 8 on power dist center. check all fuses then check wire. Is the check engine light on with key on? Possible bad pcm.

Erreur p0016 on sienna 2003 after change t-belt

The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) and Camshaft position sensor (CMP) work in harmony to control the spark/fuel delivery and timing. They both consist of a reluctor, or tone, ring which passes over a magnetic sensor, which generates a voltage, indicating position.

The crankshaft sensor is part of the primary ignition system and functions as the "trigger". It detects the position of the crankshaft relays that information on to the PCM or the ignition module (depending on the vehicle) to control spark timing. The Camshaft position sensor detects the position of the camshafts and relays the information to the PCM. The PCM uses the CMP signal to identify the beginning of the injector sequence. What ties these two shafts and their sensors together is the timing belt or chain. The cam and crank should be precisely timed together. If the PCM detects that the Crank and Cam signals are out of time by a specific number of degrees, this P0016 code will set.

Symptoms of a P0016 will or may include:
* Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
* The engine may run but with reduced performance
* The engine may crank but not start
* The engine may exhibit a rattle near the harmonic balancer indicating the tone ring is damaged
* The engine may start and run, but poorly

Causes may include:
* Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
* Misalignment of timing belt/chain
* Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
* Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
* Bad crank sensor
* Bad cam sensor
* Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
* Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged

Possible Solutions:
1. First, visually inspect the cam and crank sensors and their harnesses for damage. If you notice broken/frayed wires, repair and recheck.
2. If you have access to a scope, check the cam and crank patterns. If a pattern is missing, suspect a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring. Remove the cam gear and the crankshaft harmonic balancer and inspect the tone rings for proper alignment and make sure they're not loose or damaged or that they haven't sheared the key that aligns them. If they are properly installed, replace the sensor.
3. If the signal appears normal, then check the timing chain/belt for proper alignment. If it's misaligned, check for a damaged tensioner that may have allowed the chain/belt to slip a tooth or several teeth. Also check that the belt/chain isn't stretched. Repair and recheck.

Other crank sensor codes include P0017, P0018, P0019, P0335, P0336, P0337, P0338, P0339, P0385, P0386, P0387, P0388, and P0389.

3.6 in a 2006 pontiac g6 is throwing code p0017 is this crank sensors or what is the most common fix

P0017 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)

I have a 2000 dodge durango that wont start. I changed the crank shaft senser and the cam shaft position senser and the cap and rotor button but still wont start

Have you checked for your DTC code?? The code may help you address the issue that is keeping your engine from starting.

ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS

1. Cycle the ignition key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON within 5 seconds. To cycle the ignition key ON means to turn it only as far as it takes to get the radio to come on. It does not mean to turn the engine on.

2. Count the number of times the "check engine" lamp on the instrument panel flashes on and off. The number of flashes represents the code. There is a slight pause between the flashes representing the first and second digits of the code. Longer pauses separate individual codes. For example, flash-flash-flash [pause] flash-flash represents the code 32.

A code of "55" represents end of error codes. If this is all you get then no error codes are stored in the computer. This is the normal condition for a neon.
CODE Description of Trouble Code
