ok... check your transmissino dip stick to see if the fluid level is regeresting on the dip stick. now this IS WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DONT KNOW.......NEVER I MEAN ....NEVER CHECK THE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK WHEN THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING, ITS OK TO CHECK YOUR OIL DIP STICK WHEN THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING.BUT YOUR TRANS IS DIFFERENT...... heres what you do...... START YOUR CAR...THEN PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON ...THEN PUT THE CAR IN NUTURAL....... NOW YOU WILL GET A REANING ON YOUR DIP STICK IFITS LOW THEN ADD FLUID.. REMEMBER ALWAYS CHECK THE TRANEE IN NUTERAL THE BRAKES ON AND THE CAR RUNNING.....HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK...........

SOURCE: my car wont move forward or reverse

Chances are is that the torque converter needs to be replaced. However, the transmssion on this vehicle are only serviceable by transmision shops. No regular mechanic will open up the transmission. When the torque converter fails (clutch and plates shutters to small pieces) the debri flows in the transmision thereby potentially destroying the gears and/or clogging the filter and pump. Go straight to a reputable transmission shop and let them correctly diagnose the transmission.

SOURCE: 1991 Caprice No reverse. Moves in neutral. All forward gears OK.

This is Ron out of Vero Beach Florida. I have been doing trannys for years. The problem you described is caused (more than likely) by a seized clutch pack. Depending on the trans, and your car should be RWD with a 700r4 tranny, there are several sets of clutch packs and at least one band. Automatic transmissions rely on fluid pressure to "engage" the correct set of clutch discs, at the right time , to engage and change gears. I have seen in the past, where a customer parks his car for the evening and the next morning, no move. What happened?? More than likely, a clutch pack was on it\'s way out but cause the car was hot the plates were free, but after cooling, they can weld themselves together and actually "lock-up". In the morning you know the end result. Your tip on "moves in Nuetral" is the give away. Ron

The snow plow in my truck is not moving after the cool weather we hade last night in NJ. The motor still runing but my plow is not going up,left or rigth, but is going down

Dis you check the hydraulic fluid in the pump? If the fluid is low, you probably have a broken hose or a blown seal on one of your rams. If the fluid is full, you probably have a bad pump.

I WAS PLOWING SNOW TODAY WITH MY 1990 F250 7.3 DIESEL AND THE TRANSMISSION QUIT WONT MOVE FOREWARD OR REVERSE WILL MOVE SOME AT 4000 RPM. LOTS OF FLUID NO BURNT SMELL IN THE FLUID

Only thing reverse and forward have in common are torque converter splines and pump. Is the fluid level high? This could mean pump and or converter has failed.

Hi i have a 2000 ford super duty i was plowing snow today and it started slipping in forward gears but revers worked fine then i shut it off and let it set for 4 hours and then we started it and it drove...

Not likely. Chances are that while plowing snow, you overheated the transmission, causing the forward clutches to slip. Regardless, you should prepare to replace or rebuild it, keeping in mind that if it is going to be severe duty, such as snowplowing, you will want to add a transmission cooler as well as beefing up your internals. If it slipped once, it will surely do it again, until you lose all forward gears. It will still work great in reverse, in most cases.
