Replacing just the boot is never a good idea especially if the original boot is fubar the only time replacing just a boot will work is when the old boot is still intact every other time replacing the entire axle is the best course of action to take or else you get that clicking noise

I think you mean cv joint. If so, a new axle cost $59. You are doing alot of extra work and the joints could be damaged. The outer joint comes off, but it takes a large hammer. The inner joint usually has an inboard ring clip that you pop out with a screwdriver.

SOURCE: 2002 gmc envoy front suspension noise

the clunking or rattle sound is actually coming from the end links on the anti sway bar. You won't hear it on the bumper test. Good luck.

Diagram cv inner outer mazda sting

Inner cv's hardly ever pack up it is the outer ones as it works harder in turns. it will be a clukking noise and some grinding. Make sure they are well greased and the rubber boots are not torn. if it has wear replace it as it can be costly when it fails.

Hi all. I drive a 1.6 Jetta 4 and have noticed

That sound like a CV joint that has worn out. You should also hear it in a very tight slow speed turn. Have a CV joint specialist look at it for you before too long.

hj there this is perfectly normal because the left wheel is the drive wheel on a basic front wheel drive gearbox,Check if the shaft is not bent secondly inner CV TRIPOD could be worn. Left front chassis leg could have bent due to accident or impact .Outer CV my have been fitted incorrectly.

My 2003 chevy malibu makes a clicking noise when i turn right or left. What could that be?

A clicking noise heard especially while making a turn is most likely a CV (constant Velocity) drive axle(s) that is worn out, and if the CV boots are torn and dirt has been getting into the drive axle CV joint, then replace the CV drive axle assembly and do not have the drive axle re-built or re-booted, especially when you can purchase a complete new CV axle assembly for under $60.00 and here is a link to check one out.

The right side inner cv joint cup is wobbley, is it the cv joint or a bearing on the transmission? Thank you

to find this out hold with both hands the cv joint pull on the inner shaft when holding the outer shaft still if it moves a lot its the joint, if it dont move much, its not the joint so then pull on the outer part of the joint that go's into the gearbox, dont hold the shaft only hold the inner most part of the cv joint that go's into the box if it moves/ flops about its the bearing in the gear box

Mercury Sable makes noise when turning left and backing in? It sounds like a grinding noise.

Sounds like a CV (Constant Velocity) joint. I can't completely solve this for you, but you can re-post with the CV problem. The sound - grinding and or popping - should be coming from only one side of the car - but it could be the inner or outer CV joint on that side. Check the rubber boots around the joints - they are located on each end of the drive shaft on the transaxle. If you have a torn boot, that will probably indicate which joint is bad.

THINK DRIVESHAFT HAS GONE BUT WHICH SIDE

If drive shaft is gone replace it. Raise the car once more Look at the cv boots and shaft put car in nuetral car off key in ignition shift selector in neutral emergency brake on. position yourself by the wheel and observe the cv boot and joints rotate unisom or together on one side if not replace it check on both sides inner and outer. Then check opposite wheel
