Could be in the ignition switch. I'd try jiggling the key around and see if things change

SOURCE: i have a 1999 ford

It could be the temp sender unit located in the engine compartment. Is this the only part of the console that is bad (ie the compass still functions)? Have you tried unplugging the battery to reset everything?

Auto start quit working, 2008 grand Cherokee, kept loosing distance, would only work sitting in jeep, now quit altogether ! All other functions work ok ! Replaced remote battery, no help !

factory installed remote ENGINE start option.??
my 2005 to 2010 service manual shows no such device.
Flashlogic, after market bs? that?
or this (later it was an upgrade) per below.
http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_remote_start.htm
so, does car start, key in ignition? that be like first.!!
does it?
if yes, then next is to look at the cluster for evics display errors.
better is to scan to pcm and see why,
if the magic is broken, scan it, or get it scanned.
on factory cars the remote start is very strict,
and it will tell you why it fails.
is that Another key , real, came with and worked before.
the keys must be married to the PCM./BCM for them to work.
scan it

find the guy who installed it and get them to make it work.
we cant guess what is installed in your car
find a live human that can look and see that, see first if
it is factory kit or aftermarket
they do not work the same, so.......

2004 grand prix and the temperature gauge quit working we changed the temperature switch sensor still will not work

Do you have a check engine light on? If not then you have a defective gage, the gage is a computer generated display and you will need to remove the instrument cluster and send it out to be rebuilt. Cost about $250

1999 Grand Cherokee'check engine' light came on when I came home...all battery, temp & oil guages read fine-no change in anything. What could it be?

Do you have a Digital Odometer?
Turn the Key from the Off position to the On (not Start) position three (3) times. On the third (3rd) turn to the On (not start) position leave the key in the On (not start) postion and look at the Digital Odometer.
There will be Codes displayed there. "P" followed by four (4) digits. Write these down. Whe it is finished it will display "P donE". Let me know what the Code(s) are. They will tell me where you need to look next.
If you do not have a Digital Odometer: Do the three key-on's and leave the Key in the On (not start) position. The Check Engine Light will start Blinking. Count and Record these Blinks. When it has ended, the final Blinks will be 5-blinks and 5-blinks.
Get back with me as soon as possible with these Codes.

1999 grand marquis were the blower motor resistor is located

this is for manual heater system. If you have electronic (digital display) you don't have one. Instead you have a blower motor speed controller.

here is info

Control System Outputs—Manual A/C
Blower Motor Switch Resistor
The heater blower motor switch resistor has the following features:
  • The assembly is located in the engine compartment on the evaporator housing toward the center of the vehicle.
  • Three resistor elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower motor speeds.
  • Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the A/C blower motor circuit to decrease or increase A/C blower motor speed.
  • An overheating protective device (thermal limiter) will open the resistor coil when the temperature reaches 121°C (250°F) interrupting the blower motor operation in all speeds except HI.
  • The thermal limiter cannot be reset and is not serviceable.

2004 Grand Marquis picked the wrong day for the air conditioner to quit working...it's 94 degrees. The fuse is fine. Oddly....it seemed to have gone out at the exact second that I checked the outside...

A blower control switch for the digital A/C. Mine went out almost the same way, driving along, checked outside temp. and then it started getting warm. No blower, no defroster, not even a trickle of air from the vents.
This part is behind the motor on the ductwork. It is inconveniently behind the heater hose on the engine. It takes 2 screws, about 9mm, and has 1 electric plug.
It is about the size of a pack of cigarettes with 90% in the vent. If you can plug in the new part to the harness you can instantly tell if it is the problem, because the A/C will work. Then remove heater hose and lose some coolant, switch part.
Oddly enough there is a diagnostic in the dash display, but it did not idenify this part.

2001 Merc Marq automatic ac blower motor stopped working. I wired blower directly to battery with a fused switch. This has worked for past 9 months----but, now the compressor stays on when the switch is...

check the fuses and blower motor resister first. Some systems don't have resisters. Use blower motor speed control instead.

SECTION 412-04: Control Components 2001 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Blower Motor Speed Control Removal and Installation
  1. Disconnect the wire harness connector.
  1. Remove the screws and remove the blower motor speed control.

  • The blower motor is inoperative—EATC
  • Fuse.
  • Circuitry open or shorted.
  • A/C blower motor switch.
  • A/C blower motor resistor.
  • A/C blower motor.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
  • The EATC module self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
  • The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4° and 32°C (40° and 90°F) when carrying out the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
  • The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
  • To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  • If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.
  • If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
  • To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent diagnostic trouble codes and then turn OFF (display blank).
  • To exit the self-test and clear all DTCs, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.
  • Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).
  • Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
