SOURCE: As soon as my 2002 explorer starts it dies. After
ford has problem with idle air control valve
try to start the car next time and keep your foot on the gas pedal lightly
if it does not cut off then that's the problem
SOURCE: tail lights stay on
This may not help but it is a possible source of the problem.
With a flashlight, crawl half under the dashboard and follow the brake pedal suspension up to its pivot point and look for an assembly that is related to it that has one or perhaps two wires coming from it.
This is a common way of detecting brake pedal useage and is a switch that contacts on release; in other words, a 'normally closed' switch that is held 'open' until the brake pedal is pressed.
When pressed, the contacts close and supply either ground or +12 to the brake light circuit.
These switches are normally mounted on a bracket and the switch body may have fairly long threads allowing adjustment so that when the brake pedal is released, the button of the switch is depressed enough to open the circuit again and extinguish the brake lights.

Safety Belt pre-tensioner Status (Driver pre-tensioner Circuit Fault).
On the seat belt buckle there is a pre-tensioner that when vehicle is involved in an accident it will deploy and pull the belt tighter.
If the vehicle has never been involved in an accident it could be what we call terminal fretting which is just a build up on the terminals which cause a open circuit. Usually just unplugging and reconnecting the connector a couple of times will fix this.
If this doesn't correct it I would recommend having your local dealer look at it.

first thing to check is the battery and the connections at the battery. if all this checks ok then you should try and look at the fuses for the ignition system. this should get you going in the right direction.
